Many years ago I was fishing the Rappahannock river in fredericksburg va on a Sunday morning sunrise in late October! Walked out on a rocky outcrop at my favorite fishing hole..Looked at the water and saw a dark eddie pool gently swirling..Thought I bet there is a good small mouth bass in there..Tied on a floating rapala crawfish wiggle bait..cast to the edge of the pool and let the
lure settle about 30 seconds..one crank on my ultralite with 4# test and WHAM!! Hooked into a large small mouth bass at least 3 1/2# which is a wall hanger in these parts...It was an epic battle that took near 10 minutes..reached down to lip the fish..looked into that orange eye and it just nodded and was gone!! Had I been a younger man I probably would of had a total melt down! It was like an epifany..I suddenly realized what my dad had been teaching me for years but he couldn.t find the words to explain it! I silently reeled up my gear and cooked Sunday breakfast when I got home!!A memory that has lasted me a lifetime!! It really doesn't matter if you win or lose!! I did both that day as well as the fish!!!

After years of surf fishing I found that wiping down the reel with baking soda and water solution will neutralize the salt water!! Have rinsed them before with water but ran into problems with the bearings being effected!!!Had one reel that was hard to reel and found a siezed bearing...removed it and soaked it in finger nail polish remover..acetone..got it rolling again and repacked with marine grade grease....good as new!!Also check the roller on the bail where the line rests.!!I have had them siezed get a groove in them then cut the line!!! Good luck

I bought shakespeare gx2 ugly stick combos from walmart for 39 dollars each!Spooled them with #12 mono!!Used them in OBX for a full week no problems!!Most of the fish are right in front of you less than 40 yards away!!Caught blues..flounder..specks and pompano!!! I have larger rods for the bigger fish but I had a fish fry every other day!!

I started with a cane pole and bobber..my dad bought me a heavy ass shakespeare fiberglass bait casting rod with a zebco 202 on it when I was 9 years old!!!The reel is long gone but I still have that rod for over 50 years now!!I picked up a fairly heavy diawa spincast reel for it!!I still use it...inland and light surf and I always will!!!I have an arsenal of spinning rods as well but I will always spincast no matter what anybody says!! I prefer spincast but it doesn't fit every situation..that's why I bought spinning gear!!! Just have fun and do what makes you happy!!!Tight lines my friend!!

I remember when the potomac and the anacostia rivers were basically sewers!!!40 years later the potomac is rated as one of the best bass fisheries in the u.s.!! The land has been developed to the point the run off from the hardscape effects water quality!!The farmers are doing all they can to keep their run off out of the water...and so it goes!!Since the advent of ethanol enhanced fuels the sulfur is not coming down in the rain anymore and the farmers have to amend soil with sulfur for their corn crops...One thing effects so many other things!!

I live on the lower potomac river in VA...Back in the early 90.s there was a good population of stripers! They weren.t regulated then..When they were out of season and they were tearing up pound nets I saw people take them from the net then take their scales off and throw them back to die!!The fishery has suffered since those days..small quotas and poaching is rampant!!!There were so many stripers the blue crab population suffered from the stripers eating the small crabs!!Now the crabs are slowly coming back but the stripers have not!!We catch alot but their all shorts mostly!

Been fishing for sixty + years...can.t say if it's better or worse!!!I think it's got alot to do with the particular fishery..regulations..and species!!I.ve been blessed as my father taught me well! Go to OBX in North Carolina every year for surf fishing..some locals say the fishing sucks but I don.t seem to have a problem catching!!Some days you catch...some days you fish!!

That's what is called a pork butt in California. Pork butt, Boston butt. It's not the pig's butt. It's the pig's foreleg. I think. A shank? Got a good amount of fat in it and a bone. Great for pulled pork, cooked low and slow til it falls apart.

Looks like a butt!! I've cooked a ton of those..it's a shoulder cut!!When I can get them I prefer a picnic..more of a shank cut..little less fatty and a little better texture but good just the same!!

Check the regs for how many crab pots "one" person can have or work at any given time!!Here in VA you can have two pots per person without having to get a permit!!I asked the game warden and he said he watches with binoculars...if he sees you working two pots your good..if he sees you pull someone else's or sees you working more than two at a time it's "ticket" time
