Got out for a night with my hooping partner. A better crawl after the tide change around 2 am . not limits for us but thankfully Covid made our Xmas table A lot smaller this year so everyone that wanted one had a lobster with prime rib dinner

All excellent advice from above. My brother lives in Santa Cruz . He fishes the pier and stays in the surf the whole time for fish.

I get checked about once a year. Usually coming in the channel on my boat they come over in theirs. Always professional.Just glad I get mine. The penalty is over $500 here in CA.

For our area . I second squid and sardines. Hopefully you have a sounder. look for structure. Drop to the bottom and crank up a turn or two. This is where braid really comes in handy because you can feel them bite.

I have used a rack in the back of a truck. Its easy and cheap to build. Set them up in their own rod holder. Reels and all.

Yup totally agree! DONT ask how I know...
Mat, If your not getting bites how about dropping down in line size?

You also may want to talk to a local in the area. Even ask one out on a trip. One thing I know is fishermen love to talk fishing. He can put you on a spot , catch a few then might become a fishing buddy.
Worst case is he set you up with what's biting that lake and where.

I never had to adjust. I usually fish with spinnin reels.

I switch my spinning reels to the right.

Easier for me but... Different strokes ....

Diver? I was a commercial diver in so Cal.
I dove for abalone in the mid to end 70's.

It's definitely a young man's occupation. I was in my late teens. My dive partner and I would sleep on our 21 ft cc for over a week at a time eating p b & j sandwiches. We kept our wet suits on at night because it was easier than putting on a cold wet one in the morning.

I made good money , had my closest brush with death and had some awesome experiences under water. I wouldn't change a thing.

Now in my 60s I pay a diver to bottom clean my boat. ๐Ÿ˜†

no sorry. But a nice fishery. I fished that area 1 time with some locals a few years back. We used some tuna scraps for bait we caught the day before.
It really didn't seem as we spent much time looking at the sounder. Dropped them down . Went Salmon fishing came back a few hours later and had crabs to go with salmon.

Definitely less work than I do going for lobster in my area.

Good Luck and sorry I wasn't better help.
