I think my interest in fishing reels is split into polar opposites.
I own and enjoy several Shimano flagship reels and am intrigued by how the latest technology has melded together into as near as perfection in performance as I can imagine
I’m a manufacturing engineer by profession so I’m impressed with the level of precision of every component of the reel .

Then again , I’m also intrigued by the developments that were tried and improved upon from the turn of the century.
I have a collection of vintage casting reels. Haven’t got into spinning yet but have a few.
Probly 70 reels . Nothing Really valuable. Probly best one is $100 .
I like to research the different design improvements. Research patent info etc.
imagine . Someone invented the multiplying reel that increased gear ratio . Maybe 21/2 to 1.
Then the level wind. Then backlash controls. Then use of jeweled bearings.
Next came free spool…. It goes on and on
Then there were concepts that didn’t work too well and were abandoned

This kinda stuff interests me.
Haven’t bought any in a while.

Anyone else study this ?

When I got home from the Navy my dad gave me his old spinning reel. It was Italian made, probably in the 50's or 40's. I replaced it soon afterward with a "modern" reel. Wish I still had the old one.

Do any of you have experience fishing from or owning a Twin Troller Bass boat? I am considering buying one. They are quite pricey! What are your thoughts on this particular boat?

I looked into this boat too. The downside, besides the price, is you are limited to smaller lakes and slow moving rivers, even with a small outboard. Hoping to see someones experience with it.

Interested in a fishing report and water temperature. We are heading up there next month. Thanks

The water temp will surely change in a month. OJdidit gave good advice. Maybe check closer to the time you plan to go.

The guys are pulling your leg Wally. I'm guessing you mean stripers, not strippers.

Most likely clutter from the motor running, knock the sensitivity down on the sounder until bottom is showing ok. The 14.5 is your motor charging the battery, same as a car the voltage will go back to the battery when the alternator isn't charging it. I use my sounder for structure, most fish images are false

That's great information!

It's a great story Ben. I hope you find the appropriate reel for it.
