I'm older than mud.. First car was a 49 Chrysler that my friend and I bought for 25 dollars. We had to put the fenders and hood back on it...I wasn't old enough to drive yet, but he was. I got the radio working in it and we had an awesome summer! We would scrounge together what change we could muster between everyone to put gas in it. 75 cents would get us about 3 to 4 gallons, and we would cruise! We sold that car later for 75 bucks!

But now he can catch an even bigger-un since the rod is a little stiffer.

FYI: It pays to work with a stiffer rod!

I actually broke the tip on my St. Croix by shaking the rod tip to untangle a small crankbait from the eyelet. Had to send to the manufacturer for a new top half. (two piece rod) It was cheaper to buy a new half than pay for the shipping under the warranty. Cost me just over $20 as I recall.

If it's not broken back too far, you can buy a replacement tip at Bass Pro/Cabelas. You need to measure the end diameter to find the right tip. Epoxy glue will set it in place. Good luck and catch a big-un.

And don't forget the catfish! They are a scourge. Last time I was out there I got spiked in my finger at the knuckle and still have a lump. Get a boat and fish the inland side of the islands for reds...shrimp tossed real close to the shoreline will do the trick. Good luck and take pix!!!

I lived in Alachua Fl. for 25 years and learned to scale down my ambitions while fishing the Sante Fe River and Suwannee trib's. I found Red-Belly fishing fun and productive. Drift the river casting a no. 5 rapala as close to the bank as possible, let it lay for a few beats, then twitch. Big Momma Redbellies will knock it like a snook! I caught one that would have tipped the scales around two pounds or better! Red Breasted Sunfish, they eat good too!

Fish the tides. In-going and out-going. Don't waste time in between. Get some large shrimp. Have fun and let us know how you do?
