Pretty much agree with the consensus 5-6wt. One thing to consider is buying a better rod since you will want to upgrade after a few times on the water (at least that's my experience). I would not skimp on the line as it is probably the most important aspect of any rig

Hermit crabs are Permit candy if you are using conventional tackle. Bauer crab imitations are excellent if tossing a fly. had luck with both....Tight Lines

Why do most people use braided line?

Much smaller diameter, don’t have to change it as often as mono, no stretch which helps with hook sets, doesn’t tend to get as many “loops” on the spool
