A shout out from the Air Force and a NC guy myself just south of Belhaven on the Pamlico. Welcome aboard.

Hey Captain Dave welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have caught almost everything out there. I am looking forward to your post about your ventures.

Got to agree with setting the hook faster. When you feel that first little chomp go for it don't wait for the fish to run. Especially flounder it seems they just hit and lay there. I keep a needle nose pliers as the second thing out of the box when starting out for the morning. The needle nose pliers with course jaws can grab that jig, push the hook down a little further and bring it up without getting your fingers chewed on.

I just caught a 30 pounder off Emerald, NC. Thought I'd hooked a riding lawnmower. I was glad for100lb test. I was going to throw it back as soon as I could figure out how, til I googled it and everybody said "dont throw it back! Excellent table fare! Tastes like a cross between crab and scallops!" So I cubed up the meat and soaked it overnight in buttermilk, rolled the cubes in fish breading and deep fried in peanut oil, and everybody ate it ALL. I'll always keep a decent ray now.

Thanks for keeping that ray. When the skate in our river show up, all fishing seems to stop until the school goes through. More power to you for eating it. I probably would if I didn't know what it was until consumed. Sneaky, ugly looking fish.

Forgot to mention to also have those sea legs ready if you are standing because some power boaters get a little to close it seams at first and that wave action will have you either overboard or back in the seat. Also my vest in on from the moment I step on the dock until the kayak is back on after fishing.

Hi Brian,

Maybe one day I'll get out to Florida and get into the terrific fishing I read about and see on tv all the time. A boat gives you so many more options, and you always catch more fish from a boat. Tight lines and go for it!

Hey almony, in the mean time while your saving up for that boat, look into a kayak. A lot cheaper than a boat and it gets you out on the water any where you want to go.

Welcome to the kayak world. Best investment I made in January. Takes a little getting use to, but once you get the paddling down with out getting soaked it will be fish on. What brand kayak did you purchase? I got a Bonafide and love the raised seat and availability to stand. However the following month my neighbor purchase a Hobie. That's going to be my next one to get. I like that no paddling and trolling while going from spot to spot idea. Got to sell the Bonafide this winter first.

I agree with the fights like hell. Even more challenging in an un anchored kayak. Now that's a fight.

Some good ideas here folks. I surely appreciate it. Not much into eating the blues but enjoy the fight from them. Thanks Again

What part of N.C. you from.

Good Morning Dennisjj I am just south of Belhaven fish the Pamlico and Pungo in my kayak a good bit. That's where I am headed in about 45 minutes to hit that top water and hope to come home early because this heat sure does take the energy right out. I take it you are in NC as well. Where are you located?

To get an honest answer walk the beach before hand and talk to those fishing. Then go to bait shop and compare what they tell you.

We’re leaving on a 4 day catfishing trip. My buddy, also the guide, is worried about the moon being full. Does that really make a difference?

Sometimes the catch for the day is limited because the fish feeding at night is enhanced from the moonlight. They still eat during the day just depends how much was consumed during the night. Consider doing some night fishing and take advantage of the moon light.

Does heavier line cast farther than lite? Like 15 pound flourcarbon cast farther than 8 pound? I'm newish to bass fishing, just got basically a brand new 13 fishing concept z from a friend and it isn't casting half as far as all of the youtube reviews I've seen.

I had casting problems at the start of the season part of the problem was 20lb braid. Other part was that it wasn't on the reel properly. Went to 10lb on one reel problem gone. Other reel removed 10lb line and reinstalled by wetting with a rag and a little more tension then the bait shop guy did. Casting and catching fine.

I have the same problem. Did yard work today so I can go tomorrow if I can get up and go. Body is getting old but my mind still wants to go fishing.

Keep going as long as you can get up in the morning. Fact of life is that day will come and we all will wish that we could wake up to go tell a story or two. Life is short enough don't deprive yourself of what little we can do to enjoy each God given day.

Must be a southerner. Started with " hey " that common here in NC.
