Try to find drop offs to a creek bed, or a river bed. A 2 to 3 foot drop In 15 to 25 feet will sometimes hold them in daytime. Try a deep diving jerkbait, work it down as deep as it will go, then wind soooooo slooow that you can barely feel the pressure. The key is slooooow down. A jigging blade bait (silver buddy, damiki blade bait) vertical jigging it, works well also. If you can make and paint your own, match the type of baitfish in the lake. This works for me, good luck.

You also need to put more line on the spool, it will cast soooooo much better. Fill it to about 1/16" of the edge.

I used a medium to light action red for trout fishing some years back. Trout fishing can be difficult getting around with a long rod, depending on the area you are fishing a 5 1/2 to a 7 foot rod should work well for you. Lots of excellent reels, all brands make something that will work nicely. A newbrand on the market is Kastking . The Sharkey III is an extremely smooth reel well balanced and cast like a dream. I use 3 and have given 5 as gifts, all the recipients love them. Check them out on Google or Amazon. Good luck, keep a tight line.

I use both, spining for light baits small lures, casting for heavy line and heavy lures, 3/8th ounce or larger, I also use left and right handed reels. Switching right to left handed reels will give your arms hands and fingers a rest during all day fishing outing.
