A couple buddy’s and myself took the boat out on the Ohio River today. We probably caught 50 fish between us. We limited out on sauger and caught a variety of fish. Spotted bass, white bass, yellow perch, drum, catfish, hybrids strips, crappie…. We was using jigs tipped with minnows. We went through 5 dozen minnows. And luckily I had my cast net in the boat. I found a school of gizzard shad about 2 to 3” long and got a net full. And used them and the fish liked them. We hated to quit. My buddy got a good mess to clean.

What a fun day you must have had! My favorite type of fishing for crappie is live minnows on crappie jigs with and without a slip bobber. Enjoy that fine catch!

I’ve caught some pretty nice bass. The one thing I’ve found with the fishing here is it can be temperamental. They seem to turn on as quick as they turn off.

Nice to know there are some good size fish in that lake in case my friend invites me back to her lake house. Wondering about the crappie population in that lake....do they have many keeper size?

Sounds like fun
It was fun, but, I'm at the age where the kayaking is good for me, but, wears me out! And I don't kayak once the weather turns cold--I don't have the gear to feel safe if I accidently take a dip:) I did catch some bass at Lake Royal a few months ago on some plastic pumpkin crawdads--carolina rigged. What's the largest you've caught in that lake? The ones I caught were not that big. Have you seen any good size ones?

Might be able to catch some if you can get under a bridge and fish with some live minnows.

I was sitting on my back deck one night with a friend and we watched as 4 owls came one at a time and landed on a tree branch above us. They sat there a minute or two and they left in the same order flying single file thru the woods following each other. It was pretty unbelievable. I think it was Owl Force training night for them.

I caught a 5 pounder two days ago at Jordan Lake. Was kayak fishing in some tree stumps with a slip bobber and live minnows. It was around 6pm and caught a 11 1/2"crappie and about a 20" cat as well. Let the cat go.
