I’m wondering if all the red tide that’s been there in the last few years and the phosphorus dumped into the bay wiped out the fish stock? There were not many fisherman there except Labor Day when the bridge was filled up.

Is the water still warm enough or too warm? When I was there a couple of weeks ago before the storm there were plenty of baitfish. Nothing seemed to be hitting them either. No tarpon in sight, no mackerel, no ladyfish, just lots of birds. I did catch two lizard fish and a couple of blue runners. I saw a couple of pin fish and a couple of mackerel caught on greens over several days.
The baitfish were there but not in the numbers I’ve seen before.

My dad taught me that if the fish weren’t biting then we could still have a worthwhile trip cleaning up the beach, park, river bank, parking lot, etc.

We always brought trash bags along just in case.

Fisherman are some of the best caregivers of our aqua surroundings and some of the worst.

If I had a dime for ever aluminum can, worm container, beer bottle, bait and lure wrapper I’ve picked up and thrown away along during our trips and be a wealthy man.

I fish regularly on the Mississippi River. I’ve seen everything thrown into the river old boats, freezers and refrigerators, automobiles, and tires amongst the flotsam and jetsam.

In the river the barge companies think nothing of discarding leaking barges along the banks that slowly rust down, steel cables, and massive 4 inch in diameter nylon ropes into the above mess. I’d be surprised if their sewage doesn’t make its way into the rivers as well. And yes I’ve taken pictures and sent to the EPA, local police, fish and game officials etc. The barge that ruined our favorite fishing spot stayed there for over 30 years slowly rusting down and sinking into the sand. Finally a salvage company came and cut it into a million pieces and took it away leaving huge pieces of metal and cables on the beach and water. It took Dad and I many trips there to clean most of that up.

I’ve never understood the need for someone to expel bodily fluids and waste, toilet paper, and paper towels all over the bathrooms. There is nothing more disgusting then enter a restroom in desperate need only to be confronted with such a mess yet have no choice but to enter and go.

At one park some fools even took a sledge hammer to the toilets and sinks. The park now has to close early and pay guards to watch over the facilities.

People can be disgusting for sure. Yet every once in a while one will see a family at a beach, stream, river , and lake cleaning up after others.
A ray of sunshine.

Sounds logical about the bridge? You’d think that they could afford to keep what we have repaired with the moneys they receive from the entrance fees. I doubt if FL will build something new even though it does enjoy state park status. Why not earmark that money after paying the employees for fishing pier maintenance?

Too bad about the tattle tales. I don’t believe that walking and fishing on the closed east part of the bridge would have hurt anything. Vehicles yes, I concede that. I feel they should just tear the other side down with a bit of dynamite and provide more cover for the fish while giving the anglers more opportunities to fish from the west side.

I know their plan, FL will let us fish off the new Sunshine Skyway Bridge!!😎😎

Good advice Sinker Rig. I’ve been trying to figure the tides out and how to read them without much success. Do you use an app to help figure tides out? Good info about the full moon too.

I’ve found that fishing whenever the wind is out of the North or Northeast you my as well stay home. Many times I’ve gone anyway and not caught much.

Mackerel must be a puzzle because I’ve not had too much success with them when the water is choppy. I’ve done better when there is not much wind.

It could be the tides or Full Moon has been more of an influence than wave action on those days. What you have observed makes plenty of sense though. A nice chop would help disguise their attack and confuse the bait fish.

I wish they’d never closed one side of the bridge though. Maybe it wasn’t safe for autos but it was plenty safe for fisherman to walk on and fish. I’ve never heard exactly why they closed one side now.

I agree keep it at DST.

The stupid politicians could finally do something the people want.

Demacrooks and Republicrooks could at least work together to get it repealed.
