The Sebastian inlet is the place to go for redfish and snook. It csn get crowded. But dont let that stop you. The far end of the north jetty seems the most reliable. The area where the jetty meets the shore is a good place to cast large jigs and spoons. Live or cut bait also works well. Time your visit near the high or low tides when the current is not too strong. Slack tide is poor for fishing but the time just before and just after is best. Getting a guide will greatly increase your success. The local bait shops can help you find a guide.

The creek below the unicoi lake dam is under catch and release regulations, single hook artificial lures only this tome of year. Other streams nearby such as the Chsttahoochee River on the Wildlife management Area are open to harvest under state regulations

Hot grease will take care of them. Almost All fish have them if you look hard enough. They are not a problem.

Access is very limited in the gorge. Try the chatooga river and the West Fork Chattooga in that area. Trout are stocked in wildcat creek, the tallulah above lake Burton and the West Fork above highway 28

Actually. A great deal of research has been done concerning differemces in mortality in fish caught on barbed and barbless hooks. Study after study could find no significant difference on mortality neyween the two types of hooks. WHERE the fish was hooked (lip, roof of mouth, gills) was FAR more important. Fish hooked in the gills or roof of the mouth han much higher mortality than lip hooked fish. Lures that were less likely to be swallowed showed lower mortality rates, even lures with multiple trebel hooks. Barblrss hooks DO make it easier to unhook and relase fish.

Veto lake is loaded with crappie. Nothing to catch 60 in any given day. But they’re all small. Need taken out and put elsewhere. You’re right about ODNR. Slot limits etc. you sometimes have to read everything twice with their combinations on species length, etc
please dont " put them elsewhere" eat them. Planting crappies can RUIN a pond or lake. They are VERY prolific and tend to stunt, particularly in smaller bodies of water. The smaller ones still eat good, which is the best thing to do with them. Please dont move ANY fish from one body of water to another. Many good fisheries have been ruined by well meaning folks moving fish around. If you want examples i can give you many that i have personal experience

[quote=JimTom]I just fillet it and see where those other bones are at. I figured I'd cut chunks for tacos and fry the bony parts where we can pick them out with a fork after it's cooked. I might watch some YouTube videos on filleting them for next time.[/quot

Jim, in Alabama you are catchimg chain pickerel, Not northern pike. Very similar looking but pickerel max out about 9 lbs, and average much smaller. They are good eating, but a lot of folks dont know how to deal with the bones.

Nice going Mike, looks like you will be enjoying some fine homegrown tomatoes this winter! I usually put up 25 to 30 Quarts per year, mostly to make sauce, chili or soup with over the winter.

Making me hungry Mike. Making Spaghetti for dinner later. Yummy. Love BLT. Makes for good Breakfast/Lunch when Camping in the Mountains. Do you add sugar or anything else to the Tomato Sauce in the Mason jars to bring the PH up a bit?

Actually, you need to add something acidic like citric acid or lemon juice to tomatoes when canning them. The lower PH prevents the growth of spoiiage organisms. Some varieties of tomatoes have a low enough PH to be canned safely without adding anything, You never want to add anything to raise the PH however.

Actually, they eat about the same things as other catfish. They have softer orangish flesh so many folks dont like them because of that. Not everyone has a ready source of walleyes. Walleys are good but i like a variety. Fish such as salmon, bass, tuna, swordfish hsve a completely different taste and texture from walleye, and each other, but i am not going to turn down any of them!
