I know this has been beat to death, but I have two abu c3 casting reels mounted on 13 foot heavy rods. I am using 35 pound mono. I cant seem to get the distance I would like. Would a change to braid give me any advantage. I throw 3 oz weight right now. You guys that use braid on casters, what is your experiance???
First off...thanks to all who replied and commented with some very good ideas and solutions. I ordered the casting trigger, and this thing is the cats meow. Still learning to control my release point but it has solved my problem. Ordered 5 more. This is a must have for this old guy with limitrd grip. Now I can pitch those heavy cat and carp baits where I want them. Woo hoo.....gone fishin....
I make sure my hands are dry. I have also trried cutting a finger off ov a rubber glove and push on my pointer. I guess my 75 year old grip just isnt what it used to be.
Hello. I have a question. When casting braid with heavy sinkers, the line wants to slip through my finger and rod prematurely and often fouls up the cast. How do you guys keep the line from slipping away from your finger and your Rod when casting heavyweight using braid line. Thanks
Saw this and was reminded of the recent discussion about revealing your fishing hole....
Ken....I see lots of kayaks on the water weather permitting. The lake and area are pretty well maintained. NO motors allowed. Lots of sail boats too. There is camping etc and row boats to rent also. There is also a bait shop but I dont know if it is open. They are currently dredging an area on one end.
Kiser lake. Fishing has been really poor the last few months. Hoping it picks up and stays that way.
Caught a few 3 cats today and this big fat 25 pound carp. I believe a female full of eggs. Lost two other biggies. Everything back in the lake. Supposed to get cold again here in ohio. Oh joy
Hey guys...my Whisker Seeker rod (9 foot heavy spinning fmj)and stuff came last evening. I strapped a reel to it and headed out this morning. About 10 A.M. or so I hooked into a Gafftopsail catfish caught at Indian River Inlet in Sebastian Florida. Fish weighed in about 9 pounds and was 22 in long. About max for a gafftop. Here is a pic of fish, rod, and xten net. The fish has a 6/0 triple threat in his lip that also came last night. Hope all of this means "lucky rod". Fish was returned to water.
Caught this at a freshwater pond near Sebastian. Dark colored and pretty thick for a catfish. Maybe bullhead. I did not measure or weigh as I wanted to get mr. Fish back in the water asap. However you can guess his size by pic. I wear size 14 tennies lol.
Nice gafftop cat caught this morning on mullet. Estimate about 15 pounds. Came within a few inches of getting my rod in the crick.
Caught this guy this morning on mullet. First ever for me
I must be gettin old. I keep forgetting to put the location of my notes. Lol. Ray was caught at the Indian river inlet in Sabastion Florida. Buddy was using a big heavy fishing rod and it was a hard pull and bent pole event
Fishing at the Indian River inlet. The guy next to me hooked a big something. 15 minutes later he finally got it to the net. Stingray about 20 inches or so accross. Returned to the water after unhook. Kinda hard to see as it blends in....
