Best way to walleye fish in Michigan?

You talking about Lake Michigan or some of the smaller lakes and rivers in Mi. On the smaller lakes I always use a 1/2 - 5/8 oz jig and find the holes and bounce a night crawler, leach or minnow off the bottom while drifting. Night time is usually better then day time.

I'm in Georgia; and we fish with Chicken livers, worms, minnows and crickets

Ok, but you must be only catching baby flatheads. Once they get about 24 inches long they only eat other live fish and they like something pretty good sized.

You actually catch Flathead catfish on worms ? Caught a lot of channel cats that way but never a flathead.

I here what everyone is saying about different baits. but as a child growing up my grandfather used to take me fishing every time I visit him in VA during the summer. We always fished with nightcrawlers that he himself grew in his back yard. I still follow in the path that he had layed for me and I layed for my children and grand children. What I'm saying is what ever your preferance of bait, enjoy, be happy, use what works for you. And injoy the art of " FISHING". BE BLESS TO ALL MY BROTHERS.

Ok, I guess I thought he wanted to know the best bait for flathead catfish. Worms ain’t it

I recently caught my personal best flathead. 19 lbs. and 36 inches long. Caught him on a live crawdad at night in Smith Mountain Lake. Now if I could just figure out how to put a picture on this site.

Great eating size fish and some of the best eating you will find.

Fishing for flatheads in Wi. On the Wolf, I have found that LIVE 8-12 inch suckers or bullheads with clipped fins work well. I like to find a deep hole and fish on the up current side about 1/2 - 3/4 up the slope with a 3 way swivel and about 4-5 foot leader. Works for me. The flatheads seem to work those holes and will find your bait.

Min. 30 lb braid and 20 lb flourocarbon leader. Most likely your line is contacting rocks and shells and 8 lb mono just ain’t going to hold up. Flouro is much more abrasion resistant. And remember, there are some BIG fish in that salt water.

Thanks EasternOZ. I think it’s more like he was intimidated by the answers he was getting. I have been on here for 1 1/2 years and when I first started I was getting a lot of great information and very good answers to my questions and was happy to help others with their questions if I had an answer. Lately more and more people get to rambling on other subjects and I noticed that many times the fisherman that ask the original question just leaves the topic.

A sense of humor is ok but 23 ridiculous answers to a question is a little overboard. You notice that the guy with the original question hasn’t been back. I think keep your humor and ridiculous answers to chit chat and keep this section for fishermen that are looking for help.

If the guy did not assume we all knew what ( SWF ) was for it might have gone the way it was intended. Just like the Stripper vs Striper. A little levity wont hurt anyone.

I don’t think he assumed you all would know what SWF ( South West Florida) meant but I think he assumed that the FISHERMEN who lived in this area and knew what it meant could give him some answers. The ones that know nothing about fishing this area should have just butted out. I hope the next time you are looking for a serious answer to one of your questions you get the same answers.

wire leaders are not very good for bass unless like vcrusco said you are using reaction baits, and to me 30# anything is defeating the purpose of the leader attached to braided line. it is a pain to re tie constantly, but i just look at it as one of those things you have to do in order to maybe catch a trophy bass

I never use wire for bass. I like to use the lightest mono I can. Usually 6-8 lb test.

It has been many, MANY years ago, but I do recall, the SINGLE Musky I've ever caught; was eaten due to trolling a Mepps3 spinner/ a 10 or 12 in., plastic coated steel leader. Was prolly using ~30 lb. mono... Hell, this WAS 50-52 years ago. If my memory bears any resemblance to "a stell-trap"; it is that: "It's old and rusty"!

Yup...they can certainly swallow that. Some time ya gotta eat em. And the ones I have eaten were darn good.

I use a " micro leader" It is very thin wire. I think Eagle Claw makes them.

Should work as long as it’s strong enough to handle a large fish. I like to use about a 20 lb wire leader although in most cases a 10 lb leader will do as long as your rod and reel are set up right.
