You want some stretch in throwing a Crank Bait so that when you get hit, the fish can pull when it hits. If there’s no stretch the hooks can more easily pull out !! It’s also best to use a medium action rod with a medium to fast tip for the same reason.
And for top water baits you want to use Mono because it floats. Braid and Fluorocarbon sinks taking away the action of the bait. And mono tends not to allow the bait to get tangled in the front hooks when worked. The rod needed depends on what bait you’re throwing from a med/fast for a popper to a Heavy/medium for a Frog.

Bout how far up the river should I fish? 15'+ depth?
Thanks for your help!

looking at this map, the right side usually fishes better, but you're gonna be on the outside of the stumps. should be about 7' - 12' of water. be very careful back here stumps are appearing everywhere. follow the channel as best as you can. good luck.

not a bunch this morning, but a 4 3/4 came and sat with me in the boat for a second. total of 5, these were the 2 best. both caught on that watermelon chartreuse worm that's been working pretty well.

canyon is a bit tough, lately it seems like they are only hitting on plastics, and basically around the grass lines near the river channels. i did get hit on a chatterbait though. brush hogs, chartreuse/watermelon worms. I've been fishing the river lately but will be finding a couple coves this week. either by ramp 5 and 6 or across from the marina. good luck next time.

also, I'd have 1 pole with a weightless shad on it, you'll see whites, blacks, or stripers feeding on the top. just throw that over by them and they'll hit that.
