Been fishing the Allegheny up this way for a while now. Seems that they catch more and bigger musky just below lock #3 That’s where lock3 bait and tackle shop is. I mostly fish for bass and musky but sometimes I go in the evening for the huge cats
Been fishing from shore until my kayak comes in.

Hook a musky and it may give you a good ride in a kayak. I think you are describing the pool we fish. I have seen guys trolling for musky when we were up there. We are looking for walleyes without much success yet.

I live in Tarentum and I fish around Freeport!!

I think it is pool 4. We fish below the dam. We put in at a small inlet stream near a bridge. I live South of Pittsburgh near McMurray (Peters Township) so I don’t know the names of streets etc. in that area.

Do you have a boat or fish from shore? What fish do you target?

Do you fish the north end in the stumps or near causeway? We used to drift plain nite crawlers. Plan to head there mid June any tips?

The stumps up in the Northern end are snag city. Seems like you spend all day retrying. I’m sure there are eyes in the stumps but tough place to fish. At certain times the causeway bridge is a good spot but not always. I plan to map out the humps I find and try fishing around them. Gotta find something that works. Good luck!

[quote=Jeremy]One net is for Trout other is Salmon net. They are both 5 foot handles but have fine and course net in them. I usually only take the net for target fish on trip. The Larson is as old as I am. It has a 55hp Bearcat. 4 cylinder 4 Cycle from the 1960s. Uses about 1 gallon of gasoline in 5 hours if idling. About 5 gallons of gasoline if wide open throttle per hour. Just a GLASSIC but I am stoked to have a boat from the year I was born. My little grandson is a real great buddy. Only few months old but he grins now at few things. Thank You all for replying. If ever in Oregon should get on No Hurry.[/quote

Good luck on No Hurry! Lotsa fish to be caught.

Great picture of grandson. You know grandkids are God’s reward for not killing your own kids! 😂

Hahaha! I bet that was hilarious! But Griz and them are right on about us and electronics. Somewhere, some kid is posting a similar meme about boomers and computers and smartphones and Roku. 😂😂😂

Funny you mention that Betts. Was at a grandsons B-day party and talking to other gs. I got a new iPhone a couple weeks ago but can’t figure out how to move my pictures and address book over. Asked my gs if he knew how to do it. He said sure, no problem. I also purchased a Roku stick several years ago but never installed it cause I don’t know how. About two weeks ago signed up for Discovery+ and paying on cc. Asked gs if he knew how to add Discovery+. He thought for a second and said he does. He said need Roku and then it is easy. RIGHT! He is coming over when they get back from vacation to get everything squared away. I hope he just does what he needs to do and does not try to show me how to fix all this stuff. I’m a lost cause but at least I know it! 🙄

Hello,

Hello Paul. Don’t be shy. I am also located in sw Pa. I’m south of Pgh about 25 miles. Where do you fish? Boat or shore? Experienced or newbie? You can get a lot of good info on here.

Right on Spirit! Lake Wilhelm is in NW Pennsylvania. I used to fish it often for bass.

Leaving tomorrow morning for my Detroit river walleye trip
We’ll fish tomorrow afternoon , Thursday , Friday and Saturday
Hearing reports of murky water .
Rain is about 50/50 for the duration and wind is likely to be an issue.
Hey if it was easy, everyone would do it
I’ll send updates
Wish me luck

Good luck Ben. I’m going there in a couple weeks. Are you putting in near Wyandot or farther upriver? Have you done this trip before? Be interested to see how you do.

Right on 👍 I've been jigging some below the dams here on the muskingum river. but haven't really caught anything with size. Thought about getting a can of sardines in oil and grinding them up and dip my jig in that concoction just add a little flavor lol

Probably would not hurt. When you fish below the dams what parts do you target? Wing walls, locks, or right up to the spillway. What lures do you use? We go to the Allegheny River by Freeport but have not figured them out yet. We normally go there in Jan., Feb, or early Mar., weather permitting of course. Last winter sucked. Couldn’t get out much at all.

Jig and minnow, jig and plastic,
Crawler harness, crank baits, blade baits. Normal walleye stuff.
