Got 6 in all about 6 to 10 "
Can't wait for the STEELHEAD to make it this way.
SHOULDN'T BE TOO LONG .

There is a chance that those fiesty rainbows were steelhead smolts.

Well guys. This is gonna show you WHY we are spoiled out here Striper fishin.
We got launched by 0645 and got to the fishin grounds bout 0655. Put our lines out and right off the bat we catch our first one. Land it and go back up river a little bit and start again.
Get our lines out and BAM! Our second fish and it's not quite 0700 yet.
Well we continue to go with that pattern. Catch a fish and go back up river and start trollin again.
I could bore you with lots of details but lets just skip ahead some.
We troll for 3 hours and we've landed 44 fish. Don't know how many we've missed that came off before the boat.
Well, it's not even 1000 yet we've caught 50 fish.
We're not really ready to quit so we just keep catchin fish.
Same scenario as it's been all morning. We just kept putting fish in the boat and missed a bunch as well.
Now most ALL the fish were shorts. Anywhere from 12 to 17 1/2 inches. We were catchin a few keepers and we did end up keepin 4. They were 18 1/2, 19, 19 1/2 and 20 1/2.
We fished till 1245pm, 6 hours.
We finally just left the fish bitin and we had boated 88 fish. We had at least 15 doubles and God only knows how many fish we missed.
Alright, you ready for the math? That's averages 1 fish every 4.09 min. for 6 HOURS.
As far as fishin goes, it was bout as perfect a day as you could ask for.
Now the bad news. I get the boat home and go to flush the motor out and it won't pee. I've tried it 3 times and it fires right up and will run but it won't pee. Guess I'll have to have my mechanic fix it cause I'm not gonna keep tryin to run it with it not peeing.

But the fishin/catchin was GREAT. What a lovely day. Thanky you Lord for such a blessing. Amen.🙏
Well guys. This is gonna show you WHY we are spoi... (show quote)

I've had my Johnson 90 stop peeing a few times. Everytime it was a clogged line by debris picked up through the impeller. I just popped the motor cover and disconnected the line where it connects to the pee hole, shoot with compressed air. The motor was cooling just fine, it was the indicator that stopped peeing

That's a starry flounder and believe it or not , they can get a 6/0 sturgeon hook in that little mouth . Excellent eating and occasionally up to 24 " and 4-5 lbs .

Yes, a starry flounder. Very common 20-30 years ago. While out strugeon or striper fishing you would catch a few every time, we kept the bigger ones....Great eating.

I've never fished the beaches Pacifica south to Santa cruz. I have been to Ocean beach and china beach in San Francisco but wouldn't recommend either one. The beaches north of bodega to Jenner are good. Salmon creek in one of my favorites ,easy access to the beach and not too steep of a shoreline.

Rustyhooks. Disclaimer: It's been 40 years.
Bucks lake feeds to lower bucks which feeds to Grizzly fourbay before being used for Hydo electric on the North fork of the feather. The road past lower bucks got rough but my 1975 dodge Dart would make the trip. The Dam seemed taller than wide, very steep canyon. We were able to walk out on the dam and caught nice fish casting lures.Bank fishing with inflated night crawlers. Fishing the inlet was the most productive. We didn't catch big numbers but everything was 20" plus, all Browns.

Finding the troughs are important and you can find them as the wave goes out, but I believe they are not only in troughs. I can't really explain but once you recognize that it sticks to memory. I fish as close to shore as possible where the receding wave creates enough water ( 1-3 ') for the fish. You have a little time where the " new food" is in shallow water and I believe the fish compete there.
I only go out as far as to let the wave hit my ankles. In calm surf in younger days I would go deeper.

Rich66 that day of perch catching was outstanding.

I've done a fair amount of surf perch fishing mostly Bodega Bay, Lawsons . Pt Reyes and Santa Cruz. I use a 9' spin rod rated for 8-17 lb line spooled with 10 lb mono. A Carolina rig with a 2" Gulp sandworm on a size 8 hook. I go big on the hook because stripers like them too. I also like to throw bait fish lures, Rapala , Lucky craft, Yo-zuri mag darters.
I have found to keep moving, when find them you catch them. I'v caught fish in all tides......But 2 hr from the top and to 2 hrs on the outgo seem best.

Where is Solvang? I know I could look it up, but I'd rather not. I've never heard of it. And I wish you well and good luck at Buck's. Have you fished for Macks before this?

I do belive......Solvang is just inland on the central California coast. The town was built to look like Switzerland or some European City.

I remember the rotary salmon killer. Similar to bulldog mail clip. Orange or green plastic, an angled blade made the anchovy spin. Clip it right over the head. 20" snell to a dodger. A pink lady for depth. Before that it was the long shaft blade j hook. Came with copper wire to tie the bait. Slip it through the flesh, out the mouth. Snap clip 20" to copper weight release. Every fish cost a dropped 1 lb weight. Yesteryear, don't know what's out there now.

I've caught many a fish back in time with the salmon rotary killer. The problem was only one hook, which at the time i thought was the rule. Using two hooks trolling really increases the catch.

I will start with an anchovy and apex , change the apex color and then switch all to what was working. I will somtimes use a pro cure anchovy gel but not always and caught many on untreated lures. Saw my miss spelling.....Hot spot apex lure
Just heard from my friend that a super hot bite was off Bird Rock just behind the breakers. Good luck out there

My go to for the Marin coast are chrome and chartreuse hot sot Apex lures . They're plastic and quickly get scratched up by the sharp salmon teeth.
