Hey keep them secrets! Don`t use any left over shrimp in bait keeper, your bait might stink like shrimp? Oh saltwater trick might work in freshwater too! What to do with left over peel and eat shrimp, Save for next fishing trip and soak baits together, let the scent work its magic!

Small panfish I use forceps, Catfish I use 16” long handle needle nose. I use circle hooks so most of the time they are hook set in the corner of their mouths

I also use different tools depending on the circumstances.

Unless I am fishing in a river I use the same micro light set up light 6-8 # test #2 gold hooks reels with lots of line capacity.

Long enough to reach if deeply hooked, not too cumbersome to handle. Needle-nose configuration works well.

If your handy with your pliers this is 1/2 of a coat hanger that works rather well.
Get the hook in the downward loop, twist with a little downward pressure they pop right off.

And it gets in some small openings since it is so skinny.

I would slice them so they do not fill the hook up.

If you know someone who works in the meat department of a store and can sell you the old shrimp they are gonna throw away that is another great catfish bait.

I have a buddy that pays through the nose for shrimp when the gar are spawning at the lake of the ozarks in Mo.

He fishes with microlight rigs with a large line capacity reel 6or8 # test line no weight just lets the shrimp fall like the eggs from the gar from a boat and that is some fantastic action.

Dd,
They stay on great but I have had no luck with them.

That doesn't mean not to try them they might work where you are.

The freshest chicken livers you can get.

Might check at a chicken only establishment and see if you can buy some from them, the one where I use to get them they were only 3 days cleaned and never frozen.

Once they have been frozen they are mushy and hard to hold on a single hook fresh and never frozen stay on pretty good.
