Ben was gracious enough to invite me to join he and Hal to fish the Napa for stripers this morning. We hit the water by 6:45 am (still dark) and had lines in and casting by about 7:15. It started off slow with a strike hear and there, then after about 30 minutes we landed our first of 12 shorts for the day. The keepers were hard to find but we managed to boat 4 of them, a couple of 19”ers, a 20” and 21”. Weather was overcast until noonish or so, and the early morning fog was a bit chilly. The chili flavored chips I brought helped warm the cool morning air!
All in all, 16 total fish caught and 4 that were lost both casting and trolling, a good day, but we had to work for them! Ben and Hal were great company and we shared a few jokes and various adventure stories.
Thanks again Ben and Hal for letting me tag along!

I enjoy your post. Thinking about making my first trip to the Napa/ Petaluma river trying for the strippers. Have a nice boat and have had great days in the Delta. Any tips on trolling techniques I.e speed, lures and tides. I’m thinking that it’s the same as the delta as far as that goes. Best place to launch?
