Thank you and everyone else that replied. If you can catch stripers with them, I will give them a try. Was afraid that it would be something to cause them not to bite.

Thanks again

IDK where you're Striper fishin but the Stripers we catch in California aren't shy of line or swivels.

We have hybrids around here and a few lakes have stripers but those fish will hit anything hard. I've never had a problem using anything πŸ€”

Looking for an opinion on using snap swivels to connect your lure to your line. Personally, I always tie the lure to the line, but it would be so much easier to just unsnap it and connect another lure. With all the good fisherman and fisherwomen on the site, what is your opinion?
Thanks

I use a duolock snap (no swivel) when casting from shore to allow quick changing of lures. I size my snaps based on:
1. Strength of fluorocarbon leader
2. Ability to clip to all of the lures that I might be using.

When I'm trolling, I almost always direct-tie.

Since I use braided line, in both cases I use a snap swivel that sits above the fluorocarbon leader.

We use Sampo or Rosco coastlock snap swivels. Haven't had a failure yet.

The only time I use a Snap Swivel is when throwing lures that can twist your line. Spoons, Inline Spinners, etc. I do use a Duolock Snap to facilitate quick lure changes, on everything else. I use one just big enough to exceed the breaking strength of my line, so its not a weak spot. Mostly #0s and #1s for freshwater.

Ditto for me in freshwater only.

Been using snaps for years to quickly change crank bait lures - never had one fail.

Snap swivels are for lures that are designed to spin or twist (worms or inline spinners)

I have often used just snaps, no swivels! I have never thought about whether others thought I should, or should not use any gear, including swivels. If that were true, some turkey would dictate what all the rest of us should do! No way, Jose! Just Sayin...RJS

Well, RJ, There ya go. March to your own drummer. But, lots of folks come onto this site looking for guidance or new ideas. And, for the most part, that's exactly what they get. Since I'm quite limited in what I can do fishing/catching now, I enjoy sharing my thoughts and experiences with others here.

When surf fishing, particularly at night, I use tactical angler clips at the end of a flouro leader. It doesn't seem to cut down on strikes from striped bass, bluefish, or channel bass. I do tie directly when fishing for sea trout and spanish mackerel, since both of these fish have excellent eyesight and tend to hit smaller lures. When fresh water fishing I always tie direct. Tom L

I do pearl snaps on a Friday night, with a nice pair of boots, but that’s it!
