Well guys, Ben and I got on the river bout 0645 and to the fishin grounds by 0700.
We started castin up in the slough and it was a little early but 10 min later there were big fish everywhere.
You could see the wake some would leave and the were rollin and chasin bait everywhere.
I caught 3 up in there and missed at least that many.
I was usin a light rod and little reel with 15# braid on it. I caught one about 20+ inches so we put it on the stringer. Couple min later I hook a really nice one and it takes me bout 10 min to land it. It was the big fish of the day and was 24 inches and close to 5 pounds.
Then we missed several and then caught a dink.
Finally caught another nice one and we culled the 20 for a 22 incher.
After that we went out and cast everywhere and caught 3 little dinks but no keepers, so we started trollin.
We caught a couple more trollin and released them even though they were 20+ inches.
Finally decided to go back up river and get out of the wind and try trollin up there.
On the way back we saw a BIG seal killin a big Salmon. He wasn't bothered by us at all and we were bout 50 yards from him as we went by.
We got to the upper river and start trollin and 10 min and it's fish on. We land it and it's another 20+ incher so we keep it. Go back down and put in again. Hook another one in the same spot as the 20. Land it and it's also 29+ but much heavier, so we cull and now we have 3.
We do that again and we hook a 3rd fish in the same spot and it's a 21+ and heavier so we cull again.
As we are landin that fish a boat goes by us and pulls over right where we have been trollin and start trollin down river.
They are goin really slow and by the time they got far enough for us to resume fishin our pattern the fish were gone.
We said if we caught 1 more keeper we were gonna leave. That was 1130 and we trolled till 330 and only caught 1 other little fish.
Big mistake. Next time we're leavin by noon, fish or no fish.
Ended the day with a total of 17 fish Kept 3 , a 21, 22 and 24 and released at least 8 or 9 more keepers. I think we only caught 5 dinks today, maybe 6.
Well, that was our day. AND a LONG one it was.
Had a great time as always. Thanks Ben.
Couple sunrise pics to go with the fish.

Nice fish Guys! Are you throwing Traps, as well as trolling with them Steve? Do you ever try throwing anything like Tins, or Bucktails with a trailer? They work well on Stripers out here. Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing.

Up here it is Sea Lions 🦭 that eat a lot of the Salmon. Many people have been reeling in a nice fish then Sea Lion eats half of it or just the belly for the eggs and spits the rest out. It’s frustrating. A buddy use to go spray the Sea Lions with his jet boat like a fire boat with a fire hose. They also are killing some of them here to help the salmon.

I think the Sea Lions that don’t stay out in brackish or Salt Water that were trained by their parents to go up fresh water rivers and rely on the fish are the ones that should be killed. The Sea Lions that never followed a run of Salmon don’t even know about it and eat seafood 🦞 in Saltwater.

Weren't sea lions following salmon up rivers during spawning even before European settlement? Or before the Spaniards? Or before Tribal populations?
