Over the past year I've purchased a few reels from sites like Temu and AliExpress and wanted to hear from others about their experiences. So far I have three spinning and two bait casters in various sizes, purchased at an average price of $18 each. At first I was highly suspicious of the low prices and quality claims but I must say I haven't been disappointed so far. The materials seem good enough; retrieve rates and ball bearing counts are very good; packaging is fine, delivery times have been as promised and the sites I've purchased from all offer full refunds, no questions asked. I'm interested to see how they last after 5 years of constant use primarily in salt water, compared to my old Garcia Mitchell 300s and 306s which are true dinosaurs. I've also started to buy lures, braid and mono at these sites too because the prices are truly unbeatable. In fact they're so good that Amazon resells them successfully for a 25% mark up all day long. I'm not as impressed with the rods however, especially the telescoping "travel rods" which look convenient but lack quality/quality control. As I write this I have a new Shimano TranX 400 ($290) next to a comparable Sougayilang ($29) and will be taking them both out for comparison.

Anyone else have comments about this?

PS: I've also purchased several items like printed tee shirts as gifts, again because the prices are so low ($4-$6 max) and had this to share-sometimes the sizing is way off with these sites and on several occasions I've had to return a few for the correct size. On low cost items not only do they issue an immediate refund as either a full credit card refund or a credit against your next purchase, but (now get this......) YOU GET TO KEEP THE REFUNDED ITEMS. Unbelievable. Unless U.S. retailers are quick to adapt, it'll be like the Borg on Star Trek- "resistance is futile".

When enslaved people are paid the equivalent of pennies a day to build things, they can be sold very cheaply.

You may want to research the background of Temu…

I’ve bought things from Temu lures and stuff, and I like it, no complaints on quality or anything, I am interested to know how good the sougayilang reels are because I’ve considered buying one or some but haven’t yet

The cheap wages are in communist countries. They don’t have labor unions, that’s how communism works. The government decides everything.

Communism is a step beyond organized labor, as the worsening results illuminate.

My $9.99 Shimano R2000 and $19.99 Mitchell Avocet from Scheel’s still work great after catching thousands of fish 🎣.

Yes i have three reels from Temu-two spinning and one baitcaster. All surprisingly smooth and well built. As mentioned earlier i'll see how they hold up over time in salt water environments.

Tried 'em for a while and even with rinsing and clenzoil daily, saltwater life is about 1 month. Admitedly, they get heavy use 5-6 days per week. Have no experience in fresh water. dr. bob

I’d be careful with Temu, I understand that they “gather” a lot of your data and sell it, more than other sites. The company that owns Temu had another site that was shut down for that reason, illegally gathering and selling of your data.

👍👍They are owned by company who is based in a country known to be unfriendly towards the U.S.

I didn't see anything if Fredfish's post about hating unions. For that matter, his post could be taken as an argument in favor of unions.

About temu: I'd bought a few things from them, but I had problems. I'll mention just one.
I bought a set of drill bits, and specified fractional inch sizes in my order. They shipped me a set of metric drillbits. I didn't make a thing out of it, I figured that I could use them anyway. BUT - when I tried using them, I realized that the business end of the bits were ground wrong. It was REALLY slow going in a pine 2X4, and I found that it drilled just about as well when I put my drill in reverse! It would have never made a hole in metal. They have some really gonzo prices, but I'd had problems with other orders and this one put me over the edge. No more temu for me.
