I have been fishing the Sacramento San juaquin delta for over a decade now and have been getting skunked like peppy le pew this whole season. I use the same slider sinker bass rig that everyone else does. Same bait Shad sardines and chovies. Is it a clarity issue or am I just the unlucky one. Thanks for listening gang.

We usually use smaller hooks for bait fishin than that. But if they work then alright.

Hello Derpdizzle…love the name. I would say to always check with local bait/tackle shops to see where and what for stripers…as a confidence booster you might try some largemouth bass fishing. If you thrown a wacky rigged senko (experiment with color) or a chartreuse spinner bait on rocky levees and/or tule ares, you will catch fish. If you own a boat go up the Sac or Feather rivers and drift Carolina rigged jumbo minnows (kinda pricey) on the bottom. See photos, tight lines.

Hey guy, you'll get em, hang in there. I remember a year not too long ago, couldn't catch anything legal. fishing at antioch, pittsburgh, franks tract, rio vista, hell all over the delta. biggest I caught for awhile was 17 3/4 in. more like 17 7/8, but thought I'd better be safe no telling who might the game warden be. Months. Got so bad, thought about lighting some candles.lol Then it changed. It was when the cold weather came on and it was cold n rainy, it couldn't have been in those warm summer months, no sir. But still thankful for all that nice days in the sun fishing. You're fishing all the right spots. Good luck. Might run into you.

We use filleted sardines and live mudsuckers exclusively when bait fishing for the stripers, mostly in the Rio Vista area. Most of our larger fish have been caught on the live mudsuckers. They’re not cheep! Last trip they were 4 dollars apiece! Here’s a few pics from recent trips. Keep at it buddy, don’t get your dabber down!! Rio Vista bait & tackle is a great source of current info in regards to the striper fishing in that area.

Another tip that might help. We use tilt-pro rod holders on the boat. It allows the rod to sit in the holder in a balanced position. It’s amazing how many lite bites that can be recognized. The holder is self balancing and reacts to the the slightest bite. Just set the rod in the holder and put your reel on free spool with the clicker on. Once the rod bends down and the clicker starts singing , set the hook and the fun begins! This holder has helped to recognize more bites that might go undetected than any product I’ve ever used. They sell them at Rio Vista bait& tackle. Great investment for 25 bucks! You can see it on one of my pics. U might need to use a little ingenuity to adapt them to your boat, but I guarantee that u will love them!
