I just bought a new rod on a limb.
Just picked up a brand new 2018 Clearwater 8’6” 5wt. $140. I’m currently using a Cabela’s 3 forks rod. Am I going to notice a difference? I haven’t fished it yet but want to know if it’s worth the keep before I do. I’d imagine it has to be better than the 3 forks, being that I paid $99 for the rod, rod AND line.

I don’t know the Cabela, but the Clearwater rods have been good for me. I started with a 2 piece 6 wt, later bought a 5 wt frequent flyer (7 piece) and they have been my quiver for almost 10 years. Now the 6 wt is my nymphing and streamer rod. The 5 is my main choice though, and being in a small package, it is always in the back of my car for whenever I get a chance to make a quick run to the river.

I fished a half-day with a couple clearwater rods (an 8 and a 6 weight) last year and they were shockingly nice.

If you combine it with new high quality line you’ll definitely notice.
