Going to Hubbard lk.in N.E. Michigan this Saturday, any information on this lake, location, baits, depths, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I live about an hr. From there, but have never fished it before. I have a new boat to break in that I just bought, so thought I'd try a new lake also. Just got a Lund 1650 Rebel XL,with a 50hp.Mercury 4 stroke that's all decked out for fishing, can't wait to put that 1st fish in the live well.

I can't help you Sw, but congratulations on the new Rig. Good luck on your maiden voyage, and with the fish. Tight Lines!

Whenever the lawn is done, head for the water.

Better yet, the lawn can wait til the next day ,unless I go back out fishing, then guess it will be there when the fish quit biting.

Hey SW, welcome to the Stage.. I live between Atlanta and Hillman, and have been exploring the big lakes in Northern Michigan the last couple years. Black, Mullett and Long to name a few..as with all fishing, have had good and not so good days… small mouth populations are booming in these lakes. learning a little bit… but have not fished Hubbard Lake yet.
What species are you after? I know there is a decent walleye and smallmouth bass populations with a few musky thrown in.. we love pics on the Stage, and are always open to new tricks and tips… good luck and let us know how you do!

Will probably target Walleye, but Perch are never out of the target either. I have also fished Black lk. Yrs ago , but spend more time exploring the U.P. lakes than under the bridge. I will post a report after my trip tomorrow on Hubbard lk. and hopefully a few photos 🐟

I know that lately they have been getting LOTS of perch. Close to limits at times. I believe they are using minnows but don't quote me on that. They may be using crawlers. The East Bay is usually good for perch as a starting point and there is a DNR launch right there. Walleye are caught in the bay and just outside it as well as the south end at sundown until after dark when trolling using bottom bouncers with crawlers on spinners or crank baits like rapala's, bandits, any shad type bait. Good luck. I hope this helps. It can be a tough to fish.

Thanks everyone for all the responses on fishing a large lake that I had very little information prior to fishing. I did pick up quite a few perch on the East side with crawlers, but they were on the small side, also a couple Goby ,damn things are getting into lakes all over Michigan. Fishing on the N. W. Side later afternoon picked up about a dozen perch big enough to take home, but No Walleye this trip. Will plan on staying later to fish the Walleye next time I get a chance to head that way.

I spent many of my growing up years fishing and swimming Hubbard Lake. The SE corner of the lake was all but empty of cabins except for my uncle's. Those were the best of days. There was never a shortage of perch from Sucker Creek to that 1st very large cove north. When the walleye came they usually followed a path 40-60 yards from shore. I have relatives there yet but the east shore has turned into a city. It just isn't the same.
