Greg, if you enjoy catching smaller fish, there is a fisherman's pier on the south end of Tybee Island and fishing in the surf around that area is good also. I have caught numerous small whiting, spots, and a wide variety of other small fish, stingrays, and eel. On a good day with a dual bottom "fish finder" rig I have caught one or two small fish every time I threw out some frozen shrimp. A lightweight fishing outfit capable of throwing a 1ounce weight is all you need for this type fishing. In the late evenings I have had good luck catching 10 to 20 pound sharks using spots for bait, but I normally use a larger rod and reel. You also have the Tybee main fishing pier where I have seen them catch some really large reds, stingrays, and sharks although the action seems slower for the larger fish. Tides4fishing.com gives some fishing days and times for the best fishing conditions. However, using their best fishing conditions recommendations have not consistently resulted us catching the most fish. Good luck.
