Thank you sir. Most of all thank you for your service as well as your support. As stated earlier. I can’t say I have/ done it all but I have seen enough.

You are welcome. You earned it, not me.

My dad was a WWII Naval morse code (remember that) operator in a blimp around Morocco and the Straights of Gibraltar locating German subs.
He never spoke much of it; but I sometimes wonder how secure he felt floating around in an easy-mark 'balloon.'
Trust by the time my brother & I were 6-7, we knew all about dot, dot, dot, dash, dot, dash.
When I was about 35, I realized I turned into my father.
With a whole lot of pride.
Stephen

Are you allowed to say that Stephen dot, dot, dot, dash, dot, dash?

Very impressive career your Dad had there. Between that sitting in a balloon and jumping it takes some special people.

Trust me they had ground coverage somewhere close. Just think today they use drones. Much safer. When I was in Iraq we had J-lenses which was inside a big balloon. Inside that was a camera and it gave real time on the ground.

Would the equipment inside self destruct or was there nothing inside to be concerned about?

I'd like to start by saying I've never been in the military but have the utmost respect for all of you that have.

My father shared stories of the very end of WWII when he was in. He was fortunate to not see any real action. But he talked about it and I ate it up. I love hearing first hand stories.

Some veterans understandably just don't wan't to talk about it. Others to different degrees will talk about their experiences.

If you're willing to talk about you're experiences whether it be front line fighting all the way to backround support and everything in between some of us might like to hear what it's truely like.

If you don't want to, fine, understand.

My brother and his best friend were in Vietnam in '68-'69. His friend was in the Marines and I believe he went through some serious combat in Khe San. He wrote a book about his time there. He is sending me a copy. I will forward his story in an abbreviated form when I get the book.

The draft! It should still be in effect, I at least could pick my service as did my 6 brothers. I always felt proud to serve my country. When the draft was no more, it made me wonder! I gave 6 yrs for some snow flake to screw up Patriotism.

No they just send the recording back to us which we watched on a big TV screen. We could pin point the location and radio a team close by to check it out. We stopped a lot of IED’s from being planted.

The Vietnam War and the protests effectively ended the draft for all future conflicts. It could be reinstated but I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

My boyhood friend who retired from the Army and with Agent orange damage was a jungle tracker with his dog out front for two tours. he said, "I soon stopped getting acquainted with new arrivals, it became too painful when they died". He said the politics were hurting us. "If we went by some plantation and were sniped at by the CONG hiding in the plantation and we returned fire and happened to damage one of the precious plantation trees, they would complain up their diplomatic channel and would cross over to ours and it would come down our chain of command and out company commander would get his azz reamed"! Nearly lost his life when a hand grenade was thrown at him and he was able to dive behind a small log and only got some non life threatening shrapnel for his Purple Heart.
