The key i fish is 3 miles away from the dock..i did it once with the electric almost didnt make it back..
I did a bit of research on the Epropulsion electric boat motors. Seems to be a direct knock-off of my German-built Torqeedo, only a Chinese version. Torqeedo was begun in 2005, Epropulsion in ~.2012. Almost the exact same specs, capacity, etc. My Torqeedo has given me virtually no reason not to be pleased with both its performance on the water or ease of use/charging/storage/mounting.
Sorry you had a "bad time" with your electric experience, Corky. I think you may have had expectations that exceeded the motors capabilities.
The fact that you somehow have come to juxtapose the 3hp/1000w Epropulsion's lackluster performance for you with the "relief" of going back to a 15hp gas motor.....well...that's hardly apples to apples, is it ?
I certainly don't feel like dissing my Forester about its "get up & go", after a day behind the wheel of my Audi TT roadster...it just wouldn't be a fair comparison.
If you ever decide to maybe have a change of mind about electric outboards and your apparent need for "more power".....win the lottery or inherit well, but dig deep for sure, & check out the "Elco" electric outboard motors ...big power, big bucks, excellent reviews and been making them for decades.
It's mostly the quietude of motion on the water that most attracted me to power with electric in the first place. I have zero desire to listen to the obnoxious "putt-putt" of a gas motor while trolling. For much the same reasoning that my nail guns are most all battery powered now......no frigging noisy, heavy-ass air compressor to lug around and frighten others (like unsuspecting clients !) with, when it kicks on unexpectedly.
Evolution of making life easier with less noise pollution...always a good thing, imho.
(Not to mention no stinky gas can on board !)
did Zodiak purchase Avon? there is no Avon listed on the zodiak site and all their tenders are PVC. Are you able to buy a new Avon anywhere?
I completely disagree about the electric motor. Newport just came out with a 3hp motor and reviews have been excellent!
