. Then I found
.Went down to Pymatuning today real late start and was hoping to get in some frogn' before the weather moved in . Fished a couple spots that usually produce something and nothing for a couple hours started smelling funny๐ฆจ๐ฆจ.
Then I found a few . I hooked into one about 5' back in the pads and got her to the yac, net in hand telling myself " don't loose this one" !!! . That didn't work. You ever have one of those fish that you loose right at the boat that just makes you wanna cry? This was my first good hook up ( at least I thought so) of the day and I just had to sit there for awhile to get my act together.
Most likely on the high 5#- 6# bass. But still had the frog( whew) ๐ฅด . So still smelling funny๐ฆจ I started casting again and within 5-10 minutes put a 2+# er in the net( that fresh air smell) ๐. Got a few more ( 4) for the day in between cloud bursts just sitting under my new umbrella . Did this twice and the third time headed to the launch sitting under that umbrella still feeling the sting of that one fish!!! ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐บ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ
That one will just give you the reason to go back again! I have a couple that still haunt meโฆ
They may have won the battleโฆ

Quite an engaging report, Andy! Felt like I was in a yak right next to you. I do feel your pain on losing that potential PB--strong fuel for revisiting that spot for sure!๐ฃ๐ฃ๐ฃ

Hey Andy, I am sure youโve been asked before. What frog do you have the best luck with?

The one tied on!!! Lol๐ค๐
Seriously though I believe it's more about placement of a frog than color or brand $$ of frog.
So the actual frog I've been really catching them with is an inexpensive Truscend ( brand frog) ie. " Little black frog" there's a pic with this frog in it's mouth in this post. I'm on the 3rd one this year right now and we'll over 200 Bass on this frog alone. I buy them of Amazon and have seen them on Temu and #4 is still in the pack from Temu . It's about $4.00 bucks.
I bend the hooks up and out a little and put flashh-a-boo in the silicone legs . But it's still more about frog placement and retrieval than the actual frog itself.
A frog represents much more than an actual frog ,more toward a bait fish in open water but in the pads or scum and finally thick mats it becomes something moving and the dinner bell is on. This could be any number of edible creatures.
I also use a larger 2.8 Truscend frog which seems to be out of stock most of the time ( possibly discontinued) . And the Booyah jr. in leopard pattern also produces well with all the aforementioned tweaks.
If you fish mostly clean water the standard Booyah Pod Crasher in gray with black specks found at any Walmart will produce as good as any . I also use another off brand (Runcle) popper frogs ( Amazon ) that did real well this spring before the pads took over. But I still say the frog is not the most important part of frog fishing . A $18- 20 dollar frog may walk a tad better but most places I cast to a long a bank to a likely fish ambush site you're not walking a frog if the fish is there one or two twitches after it sits a moment is all the movement you need. I'll walk my dog when I get home.
Understanding where and why a big bass will be in a certain spot is much important than the meal you offer. The color and specifics of a frog are used to catch the Bass fisherman/ woman not the Bass .
I like a smaller frog most of the time because most people don't use them and Bass are not as likely to look at them as much as perhaps they might a bigger frogs. They get inhaled ( usually)deeper which helps in the hook ups . Big bass will eat a small frog .
Be careful watching YouTube videos because generally they are advertising a particular brand as much as telling you how they fish it. I hope this helps . I even just recently caught a 2&1/2# er on a mini frogs shown in one of the pics that has a small spinner blade which isn't much bigger than a nickel. ( Temu) ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐บ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ

DC, I lose a couple fish Everytime out and even in the 3+# range without much thought on size .I just try to learn why I messed up on that particular fish or perhaps it was just something I had no control of. But there have been a few this year that just rips your heart right out and this was one of them . But I know where she lives . Might say I've been to her pad ๐. . Ya just never know??? ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ๐บ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ

Thanks Andy. I too like to frog fish. Been using the frog from Walmart. Just asking to see if I can up my game a little. I really like fishing top water lures.
