Good morning, fellow pome readers. One of our newest members posted a hard to watch video on his email sendout that I believe is worthy of passing on. Particularly to those of us who play in the water. Please take a minute and watch it.

Excellent thread Table. Yep always carry water, band aids and antibiotic cream for those fin pricks.

Then there is the hook in the finger scenario. Can't always play Mr Tough guy, just remember where that hook was before it went under your skin.

Thanks, Mr. Flintstone. I've developed a sweet connection to the author of that post, with a guaranteed fishin trip in our future as he plans to move dang close to me. Fishin is our passion (speaking for my own self) and getting injured is never good. Just like the impact the PFD story had on me earlier this year, I'm gonna fortify my 1st aid kit before next outing.
Happy weekend, bud.

Thanks, PB. I've only had 2 hooks removed by a doctor, one in a finger when I was like 12, the other a treble in the top of my leg. I remember em both and try hard to stay unhooked. Had several close calls, especially this year. Prolly just gettin old. And you are right, it's not just a painful hook - it's a germ transfer.

My last one was a treble under the nail and came out. Blood everywhere and concern was are there sharks in that brackish water and not the germ transfer. Paddled my way back to the house with lure just dangling and a throb like this is going to hurt getting the hook out.

Pulled the hook made it bleed even more to rid of anything that may have been near the surface. Applied the ointment and band aid and naturally went back out because they were biting.

WOW, something to think about for sure.
The water on the Napa and the Pet aren't the cleanest water I've fished before and I buried a hook in the back of my hand at the bottom of my left thumb near the wrist.
Was out on the Pet with Ben and went to drop a 4 pounder in the livewell and he was floppin around as I released it and he hit the lure I had just removed from it and rehooked himself as it fell in the well. The second hook caught me in the back of my hand as he was falling in the well.
So he was twisting around and the hook was buried in my hand all the way up to the bend, BUT, it was just under the skin. Not down in the meat. So I was still holdin the pliers in my right hand so I grab the hook and YANK it out HARD. Kinda cut a hole in the back of my hand but at least it was just in the skin , not the meat. You shoulda seen Bens eyes when I yanked that hook out. LOL.
Bled a little but it didn't stop us from fishin the rest of the day.
Ben had a bandaid and we were all good.
It's healin up pretty good but still tender and sore. Plus a little swollen still but healin just the same.
Thanks for the video. We need to be more careful and in tune with out injuries so they don't get infected like in the video. Take care guys. I'm gonna go put some more antibiotic cream on my wound.

Good post! A reminder to all outdoor enthusiasts -- there are things out there that can hurt you, make you sick or even kill you if you aren't careful. Here in SW Iowa, they have had green algae outbreaks in recent years at some ponds and lakes due to dry weather that have actually been fatal and have caused numerous bad infections to the point that Iowa DNR has shut down some public water areas or issued no-swimming warnings. Salt water red algae blooms are very similar also. One good preventative measure for cuts, jabs, punctures is to have your entire family current on their tetanus shots. A good first-aid kit should be mandatory for all outdoor activities.

Hey fellas - thank you all for the kind words and well wishes. Several of you have reached out to send prayer or words of encouragement via email or comment sections - thank you. I just hope that this helps a few anglers avoid this painful, ridiculous, (did I mention painful?) situation. I am happy to report that the swelling has gone down and we're sitting at about 25% of what was max capacity.

Thank you for sharing this, and when we meet up and fish after I move 'yer way, please pack TWO first aid kits, because I am clearly accident prone... :D

My first aid is lacking to say the least... gotta fix that...

Really like this idea for after I get back to the truck. How much bleach do you dilute? I want it to be strong enough to kill bacteria but soft enough for a woman.

No. Scratch that.

Strong enough for bacteria, but not so strong it melts my flesh like acid.

Yeah that sounds better.

Good point - I have heard about this - I'm not sure what I got into. Still. I do know that I have fished there before, but this time I had that cut that kept re-opening.

Never again.

Thanks fellas, hope to be back out by Friday - God-willing!

Tight lines.
