A comment on another post made me start thinking. What is the biggest fish you have ever landed on the old classic Mitchell 300? Mine was a larger than average King salmon from the Sacramento River, CA.

8.3lb Largemouth, 15 lb Carp. I wore mine out pretty quickly and replaced it with a DAM Quick 331. which I have been using since 1966.

Blue sharks (60-80 lbs)… Bat rays around 60 lbs. I had a small 14 ft skiff I would row out of King Harbor in Southern Calif when I was 14-15 yrs old… often at night. So fun. Would spool as much as possible 25 lb mono I could get on that little reel… letting them tow me around. Had a blast !!!

I wish the new reels came with those extra deep spools. I have been towed several times in my 10 foot Avon Rover off Monterey Ca, but never saw the submarine. I have had the same experience in the same boat, different much larger reel near Mag bay in Mexico. I wonder if it was the same sub. that towed me in California.

That carp was a fight, do you remember how long it took to land it.
