I am looking to stock up my tackle box with some new lures, but I’m specifically looking to start bass fishing. I usually use rooster tails or other bait like that and sometimes I’ll go with live bait and a bobber. I am going to take a trip to Walmart and maybe Dicks tonight to grab some things. I will be fishing on a kayak in lake Nockamixon , pa. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Fellow east PA fisherman here. Been to nockamixon. You seem to be on the same path i took in learning to fish. If theres one regret i have it was waiting too long to learn how to texas rig. Its highly effective, super cheap, and awesome for bass. Each bait or method can be fished a little differently and the set up allows for soft plastic worms, lizards, brush hogs, crayfish, sqimbaits, flukes etc. Other than that swim baits, crank baits, chatter baits and definitely get a couple top water things because if the bite is on for top water its a blast. Maybe ill see ya on the water.

River2Sea Whopper Plopper for top water Strike King Red Eye Shad lipless crankbaits work great in spring and fall. Nothing wrong with roostertails but i usaully stay away from generic brands as they tend to not spin as well. I also like the Zmann ned rig stuff. They catch alot of fish.

I concur, usually you have too jerk to get the generics to work properly.

I agree the Ned rig slays them!

Definitely some lipless crank baits for the pre-spawn and spawn which is happening now. All the fish are starting to move up and be more active so they’ll basically be looking to eat anything that moves. Definitely try some red and orange lipless crank baits that look like craws because bass love those.

No more Dicks for me, since they fell in with the anti-second amendment crowd.
I have been fishing for 83 years started at age 6 and one thing I have learned about bass they will grab anything that moves. Once for a top water I tied on a clear casting bubble with a treble hook and before the splash rings were gone I had my first strike. Lately I do a lot of fly-fishing from my one man pontoon boat staying out from shore what is an easy cast and try laying my fly as close to shore as I can once I cast to far hit shore hooked a bunch of grass and was stripping it in to remove it when a bass came charging and took the wad of grass. When I really get serious I put on a small bullet sinker a hook and thread on a plastic burying it pulling the eye into the head, using a long rod I swing it as close to shore or cover let it sink to bottom if no take I repeat dropping it app 2 to 3 yards further along the bank and drop it again. I only once ever had a bass hit it on the rise only when falling. By dropping to bottom you will on occasion pick up a cat fish. The trouble with us old guys we talk to much.
