I have 2 of these and have the same issue with them, as well as with Omegas, etc. After setting the hook on a fish (typically bass), the line slips, almost as though the fish broke-off. If you’re fortunate enough to still have the fish, you can quickly catch-up but you have instant slack put into the line. Obviously, that is the last thing we want, when fighting a fish. I’ve cleaned and lubed mine and have changed line. The issue is still there. Just wondering if others have this issue and if anyone has a remedy? I love them, when they’re new. They cast great and usually have good backbone, with bigger fish.

I’ve used “Bullets” since they first came out, and never had any problems. I have two of them.
Not familiar with that reel. Are they "disk friction drag"? Maybe some oil or lube has gotten on the inside of drag pad disk? Just a thought....

EFly, it sounds to me like the line is slipping by the pickup pin during the hookset. Questions :
Did you buy them at the same time or the same place ? That might indicate a manufacturing defect.
Are you using braid ?
Is this something that developed over use & time ?
Have you contacted Zebco ?
I would try this ... take off nose cone, remove all lubricant from the pickup pin(s). These are located on the spool retention cover. Reassemble. Make one long cast. Retrieve line while cleaning it with a clean dry towel. Reclean pins. Try it out. If this gave you a fix, you'll know the source of the problem is : too much lube in the wrong place.
If this doesn't help, contact Zebco, they may be able to give you some answers. Be persistent. Any reputable business wants repeat business and customer satisfaction, but sometimes they screw up and hire a lousy customer service person. Don't let that frustrate ya, dig in and get someone else on the phone, PROVIDED your not stuck with one of those "chat" "people" who are generally not human. In that case I personally, would go to the retailer with my complaint. AI is taking these options away. When this happens to me, it's all over for that company & me unless I can't find an alternative to replace them.
We all gotta start fighting this, or we'll be spending a lot if time on the computer, and ending up with no resolutions. If they want ME for a customer they must give me a human being, not a machine, to assist me with product inquiries.
If your useing braid, Zebco recommends minimum 20 lb.
Your line is most likely slipping past pu pin.

That would make sense to me. Hope we get the answer to his problem here on the Dugest.
Sounds like good advice process of elimination. i'd make sure that pin is not stuck and it is coming out all the way 👍
Guys, I will try these suggestions, all seem logical. Thanks, for your suggestions. I normally use mono, only. I may try braid, if these suggestions don't work.

My wife has two of the Omegas and they are fine except the drag always comes loose always having to adjust it

I've owned and still own many Zebco reels some seem to have problems that just don't want to go away, I have 3 of the Z03 models and since they came out ,I have Never had an issue with any of them, my grandson also uses a Z03 and loves the reel and dependable service of this reel. I would recommend trying one, have caught 100's of walleyes and N. Pike here in Michigan and in Canada on them and leaving in 4 days for another Canada trip, that is one reel that is already packed.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi EFly, I’ve never used this reel, but have had issues in the past with my line slipping. I now put a small amount of electrical tape on all my spinning and bait casting reels prior to spooling them. It ensures I don’t have slippage and works great.
I have 2 also my first is fantastic!!! Zero problems and I put 20lb braided line on it. Now my other is a completely different story the drag is completely jacked up a crappie can just pull line out!! It’s broken so I’m sending it back to have them fix the drag.
