He stretched out and quietly enjoyed the shade under a mesquite tree and the thin patches of grass. It was still summer, and he wished it would rain a little to cool things off, but since it was still a hot summer, he would have to wait.
He had been living out in the open for about six years and wasn’t able to keep a record or any real knowledge. It had taken a long time for him to get accustomed to eating grass. When he went to get a drink of water from the creek which flowed year-round, he would have to wait for other bigger, more aggressive animals who were dominant.
He had found it hard to get adjusted to living with all the other animals. They were very territorial and had little patience even when it was open range. He would only occasionally have a flash of recognition of his former position as king, or something like that. His mind had been so almost completely changed; he wasn’t sure what had happened to him.
Finally, after six years, he was allowed to recover his human senses and return to his former position as king of Babylon. He had been king and had such an arrogant attitude God had him turned out with the animals of the woods. This was to teach him humility.
Given the heat, the mesquite, prickly pears, rattlesnakes, it would be tough to survive here in Texas. So, if you are interested, read Daniel 4:20 where this happened to Nebuchadnezzar.

RJS - I remember reading that many years ago when it dawned on me (and it blew my mind at the time) that this was the same Nebuchadnezzar of the hanging gardens of Babylon fame!
I actually thought of that story a few years ago and thought it would of been fitting for the then current president to go through to learn a little humility. it is all to common for the great and powerful to let pride get in the way of accomplishing great things. truelly PRIDE does go before a fall. true for people and true for nations
Absolutely, in my opinion pride can be very destructive. Several great leaders downfall was letting pride effect their decisions. Keep writing.

Unfortunately, many of us have drunk from that dipper. Fortunately, most of us have been able to recover or at least learn to control our pride! Or at least the most harmful effects. Just Sayin...RJS

God resists the proud, gives grace to the humble.

Yep, pride takes on many guises and the most insidious ones are often the ones we're not aware of. Fortunately, my wife keeps me honest in that department!
You know, not many of us will admit we have married a smart woman, one who will set us straight when we stray. I am thankful every day for mine. Just Sayin...RJS
