I thought this article summed up the debate. It’s a little tongue in cheek, but I don’t think it was meant to be disrespectful, since the author is a Marine.

I really appreciate your post JER as I do all others who have posted the same for the other branches of the military, nothing but good wishes really for all those who have served. My Father-in Law was wounded on Iwo Jima as a Marine and My uncle rests in San Diego after being shot down over Indo China in Army Air. To think someone would then come on this board and try to ruin it all with HATE is hard to believe. However I, after reflecting on it, being a reasonable human being, understand maybe the ill-tempered one is dealing with a lot of pain like he is siting on a large Hemorrhoid. That might explain it.

Maybe I unintentionally hit some nerve. That certainly wasn’t the intention. My intention was to recognize one of our military branches.
