Hi all! Names Scotty. I’m new to the forum. I grew up in western Washington, but have lived in eastern Washington as well. I’m 63 years old and have been fishing since I was 8. Saltwater and fresh. Hardware and fly fishing.
Heading to sun river Oregon for five days on a family vacation, first part of August. I sure I won’t be able to sit with the whole gang for too long without going crazy! I’m looking for some insight on fishing crane prairie reservoir! I’ve never fished anywhere in central Oregon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.😊

Fish the channel at Crane and you can catch some nice rainbows. The marina there can help point you in the right direction. O'Dell and Cultus are great too.

Crane Prairie is relatively shallow with a maximum depth of about 15 feet. Fly fishing can be very good at times with some very nice rainbows. Dragon fly nymphs under a float, power bait and night crawlers are effective baits.
There are also largemouth bass of very good size. Good luck and please share pictures.

Where are you staying. At the lodge or one of the campgrounds. I would be willing to take you fishing in my boat or yours. I have been fishing craine for over 30 years.

I don't have problems with kids. I got 3 grandkids and 5 great grandkids. My boat is large enough for 5 people. I have taken many children of all ages. I want.to hook them on fishing.. caught 2 over 21 inches and at least 3 pounds. Caught another one 19 inches and 2 1/2 pounds before 10 am. Then catching died and nothing. I fish Ultra light rods with 4 lb test.

My wife and I are going to Crane Prairie in two weeks for just a couple days. Camping at the Crane Prairie Resort campground.

Planning on trolling for Kokanee. I’ve read there are some nice ones along with the Rainbows.

Do you have any suggestions on locating Kokanee there?

Gary
