Thin the herd?

I may be drawn and quartered for saying this, but I think that this planet has too many humans. A lot of people - mostly our leaders - say that we need population growth. Sorry, that's a Ponzi scheme - and every Ponzi scheme is destined to collapse.

If there were about 1/3 as many humans as we have, the Earth would be able to heal itself of the damage continually as we humans cause it. Climate change would not be an issue.

1/3 as many? That's just my guess. Maybe even less. Not likely more than that.

In any case, I'm not volunteering to do my own part to ease the overpopulation. No one is. I'll be leaving this planet involuntarily, soon enough. I'm approaching 80 so I'm on overtime. Maybe God has let things get worse so that when my time comes, I won't feel badly about going?

Sorry, I didn't mean to change the subject, we were talking about fireworks. They help to thin the herd by removing those least fit to remain.

The one story about looking down the tube is as stupid as looking into the barrel on a gun that didn't go off as it should have. These guys all deserve to be on the Darwin Awards.

For sure a Darwin Award .

I realize the newspaper(yes we still like to read a newspaper over breakfast) and TV media do stories about firework accidents to try to get people to stop using fireworks.

For me it's comedy about how stupid people can be. I have no sympathy for those that injur themself with fireworks. I do have sympathy for other people hurt by their stupidity.

A local story in the paper this morning was about a guy who had gotten some big fireworks. He had one with a tube that shot an explosive into the sky. He lit it but it didn't go off. Guess what happened? He looked down the tube and it went off.

In two seperate incidents somebody's fireworks set the neighbors house on fire. Idiots.

Picture a home in a nice neighborhood. Friends and family were sitting on the front lawn facing the street. The host was putting on a fireworks display on the front sidewalk for all to enjoy. The parents put the small kids in front to make sure they got a good look. At one point something went wrong, oh oh , fireworks starting flying all around as parents ran to grab their kids and everyone exited the front lawn. The fireworks stash was in the driveway behind a parked car. Oh oh, the stash caught on fire and then the car did too.

Hope you all had a pleasant and safe fourth of July.

I’m as American as you can get, and I love it !! I served my Country from ‘66-‘72 in the USN and saw action in Viet Nam running the Seal Team up and down the Rivers. All our opps began at dusk and ended at dawn.
As a kid I loved Fire Works and actually still do at 76. But, only now, if I can SEE them !!! To only “Hear” them, is Excruciating !! It’s not as bad as it used to be, and if I get too on “edge”, I get in the truck and head for the hills where I can get away from the noise. Is UN-nerving at how much they sound like Mortar shells and small arms fire. I wouldn’t want to take away from anybody their right to enjoy the Celebration, it’s the illegal use long into the night after the organized shows are over. The VA knows my issues and has prescribed a sedative, but that scares me even more. If you or any of your friends or family are unaware of what some of us have been thru, not just Nam, but Iraq, Iran, Pakistan or any Conflict, try to understand what we’re going thru. Thanks Guys

Thank You
I’d pretty much always lived outside of town until about 12 yrs ago when we downsized and prepared for retirement and sold the ranch and bought a manufactured home in a seniors park. We love the new digs and every thing was great until about 5yrs ago when they built a new High School a mile or so from us. They started celebrating the 4th with a “Spectacular” Fireworks show !! That and also building a few new tracts of homes around us. I thought I had put all that behind me, but it “popped” back up over the last few yrs. I’ve gotten somewhat better. Hopefully I’ll continue to improve.

Sorry Mitch. We live in a manufactured home 55 and over community of about 1500 homes. There was plenty of popping around us. It had to be coming from people in our community. Can't escape it I guess.

I realize the newspaper(yes we still like to read ... (show quote)

I have a friend who likes to set off fireworks on New Years Eve. One year one of his guests got into my bag, got out a rocket with the stick broken, put it on the ground with it pointed at people, and LIT it. Most normal people would have learned from that, but not him, he got into my bag a little later and pulled out a m-100 and asked “What’s this”? Upon learning he had a 1/4 stick of dynamite in his hand, he freaked out, and I asked him “Who gave you permission to put your hand in My Bag. I gave him a stiff talking to ending with “You put your hand in in my bag again, and bad things are going to happen to you”
