I'm wondering if anyone has recently been to Bishop or Mammoth California and can share their experience,

Was there end of May for a week, and trout fishing was happening but slow. There was good Sac perch fishing on Crowley. We mostly fished the lakes -- slow going but we caught fish every day and caught a couple over 18 inches (rainbows). The rivers/streams were high then -- guess they're more fishable now. Troutfitter guide shop would know the current situ -- they're in Mammoth Lakes.
Good luck!
was at Mammoth two weeks ago. Streams and rivers are high and fast and tough to fish. Lakes in the basin were frozen or partially frozen, most likely OK by now. Convict and all the June Lake Lake's were open and fishing OK depending on the planting schedule. We caught a few at Inlet #2 on Bishop Creek. Good luck!
I was there last week. June and Gull are good to fish, but from shore was reeeeal slow. Bridgeport is fishing well if you go early in the week. Twin lakes at Mammoth was open and I caught some beautiful large brook and rainbows. They were only biting on flies for me (spinning rod, bubble float). Lake Mary road to lake Mary, George, etc. was still closed at twin lakes. I didn't hike up.
It sounds like the best days to go to any of them are Wednesdays right after they stock, otherwise it's hit or miss. The streams were still unfishable except around the bishop area where they are waning a tiny bit. Intake 2 and Sabrina have fish as well. But again, early in the week is best.
Sacramento perch were off the hook 2 weeks ago on Crowley. White crappie jigs with crappie nibbles in 10-14 feet of water Trolling was ok with Tasmanian devils I used bleeding frog.
Could have got easy limits of trout with inflated crawlers. Good luck.
