To preface, I'm primarily a bass guy, and I'm mainly used to Medium (or lighter) power spinning outfits. I also travel a decent amount, so I'd prefer a 2 piece rod.
Does anyone here have any suggestions regarding a medium to medium heavy baitcasting rig? Either a combo or just a rod would work (I have an old reel that works decently).
I'd like to keep it under $150 USD, but that's not a hard limit.

I picked up a berkley cherry wood medium heavy rod with a abu garcia silvermax and it has been solid for me this year as my first bait casting setup. That'll leave you cash for some tackle to go with it.

I have two travel rods one is a cabelas salt striker 3pc 7ā6ā and the other is a st croix triumph 7ā 3 pc. Both come with a tube to store and protect the rod while traveling which is really handy. The three pc makes them easier to store so if keeping them in your car is important or being able to bring them on airplanes I would look for 3 pc rods. I think the st croix was around $120 and I paired it with a $80 shimano Sahara but both can be found on sale a lot. Iām not sure if they still sell the cabelas salt striker but it with a decent shimano reel was under $125 and I use it a ton with no complaints.

St. Croix Mojo Bass. Extraordinarly nice rod for the price. Pair it with an Ambassadeur 6500. A little over $200, but money well spent and you can pass it on when you're done with it if you take care of it.

I really like st croix rods for the money, partial to shimano also dont skimp on the line, the most important part
My personal opinion, they're the best you can buy in the price range he's talking about. Take it fishing and give it a workout, the eyes aren't going to fall out and the tip's not gonna break off. Same can be said for an Ugly Stik, but 0 sensitivity.

Maybe that's why I very seldom catch fish. I have alot of name brand but cheaper fishing combos. Maybe it's the sensitivity that I need in the expensive combos. My daughter did buy me a baitcasting outfit from Walmart. She paid $100.00 for it. I've had it at least 5 years & never fished with it.
It really depends on what you're fishing for and what technique you're using. Some fish will will just slam it and you don't need the sensitivity. And sometimes you want to feel the slightest little tick. Bottom line, you're going to miss a lot of fish without the sensitivity. If you go to Amazon and read some of the reviews of various rods you will find that the rods with the poor reviews generally have problems with the guides failing and tips breaking off on casts. My point was that you will not have that problem with a St. Croix rod, and if you do St. Croix will replace or fix the problem for free. Same with Ugly Stiks. You could use one of those to beat a rug and you wouldn't damage it, but you want to use that one to fish for the slammers.
msmllm..... you have a brand new combo for 5+yrs and have yet to use it ? We just might have to notch your fishing license to indicate your offense ! LOL ! Absolutely unacceptable behavior ! Dust that puppy off and take its virginity !

If you still have a brand new outfit that you've never used in 5 years, why would you want another one. Can't justify spendin more money on something whenever I've got a brand new one I've never used. Use the one you already have. If you really don't like it , THEN maybe buy another one. Just sayin.
If you haven't used it, you really don't know its capabilities....you just might be totally surprised that it's the rig you thought you were wanting to buy ! Wouldn't that be a hoot !

Well she bought me a baitcasting rod & real - now use spinning or spincast. Actually she bought me another one - don't know how expensive. I found it in the basement. I am frugal & she is the opposite. You know how it is. Casting one out & turning your back & a fish pulls it in the water. Probably afraid that's what would happen. You say, well the fish aren't biting & go check on another fishing pole, then go back & say "what happened to the one I was fishing with"?
I have lost a fishing outfit at Dale Hollow, TN- Columbus, OH - 2 outfits at Beech Fork Lake - New Albany, IN (that I can remember). When the fish aren't biting, turn your back - that's when they bite.

Ever cross your mind to anchor them down. Just sayin.
