I’ll ask anyway, they are putting all these restrictions on stripe bass, slot limits. Why I Lake Tahoe they can take multiple stocked fish they are so abundant, why can’t these fish be released in the ocean to increase population?

The only stupid question is the one not asked. I don’t know for certain but as an Uneducated guess, the ones in Lake Tahoe are hybrids and born to fresh water. May not be able to survive the salt??

Seems like something is off. Rhode Island is quite a ways away from the Tahoe in Sierras of California/Nevada

I googled it and there is only one Lake Tahoe in the U.S.

Well, then he's confusing it with another lake because Lake Tahoe doesn't have any Stripers in it. 🤔☹

It’s the poachers and the commercial fishermen that are bringing down the striped bass population. Stocking the ocean with fish that have been landlocked is not feasible and would only be a drop in the bucket (or ocean in this case).

Added to that is with the "slot" in place the mortality rate of the fish caught above and below the slot increases because most recreational fisherman use treble hook lures and injure the fish. the way my guys fish we only use single hooks and 90% of the hookups are lip shots. if one does take it in the throat a pair of side cutters to split the hook, what remains will dissolve in the salt water.
I post some pics from this weekends tourney so y'all get a better idea of what I'm saying.

Stock the ocean? Don’t think we have enough hatcheries to do that. We’re talking about a a pretty large pond there. Cool if we could pull it off though. Maybe some day but I don’t think we have the resources right now.

I am not saying it is possible to do sucessfully given all the outside factors, , but that is what we are trying to do with the pacific salmon. Just food for thought.

That is a good question Neil, We should ask our marine fisheries people if they have considered the matter. If I can figure out who to ask, I will try.

Millions of stripers have been stocked in the Hudson River over the years. I believe the power companies were/ are required to stock them to compensate for the ones that get sucked up in their water intakes. In the 1990s there were tons stocked to help with the recovery. Once the spawning of wild fish recovered I believe they curtailed stocking because a lot of the hatchery fish were from the Carolina’s non migratory stock and they wanted to keep the genetics of the Hudson stock pure. So yes it’s been done.

Worth pondering Neil. Always a good thing to try and think outside the box. In this case perhaps, outside the box of frozen fish?
