The water way is so shallow either side of the main channel , especially during low tide, that it can be very frustrating at times. I use a pedal powered kayak but also run a 2.3 hp Honda to get me from here to there faster. I keep an eye on my fish finder depth readout while I’m motoring with the outboard. Any depth 2 feet or less I pull up the motor. There are times when I even pull up the pedal unit and move around with a pole. It’s not that I’m complaining about the fish… there are fish. But it would be nice to find deeper water without being in the channel.

First time I rented a sailboat in Albemarle Sound I didn't know the tide got that low. Got stuck out there and the guy from the rental had to come out and get me. Glad he did cause he was really cute and we went sailing on his boat together for the next two days. WooHoo!
Guess you just need to study the tides. There are charts you can get for free online of water depths in your area.

Not familiar with our area, but if it's part of the intercoastal system, maybe they could direct you to a recently dredged out spot ?
