Went carping in flooded, 74 degrees Carnegie Lake this evening on a warm, cloudy day with a light west wind. Threw out a can of corn 🌽 for chum, then caught and released 4 bluegills, 2 13” white catfish and 2 musk turtles 🐒 with whole kernel corn bait. Saw 14 other fishermen catch a few fish. Lots of fish 🐟 were jumping. A young catbird hung out in my spot. Took lots of pics.

Morning, bands, I love the "Maryyyyyyy" sound that the catbird makes. They are usually in the bush and not on the rods. Thank you for sharing, and have a great day.

Nice fish. Catbird not shy. There's a couple here made a home in my azalea bushes.

Nice day, Bands. Catbirds are Mimic Thrushes and can sing almost as well as Mockingbirds. The third well known member of this bird family is the Brown Thrasher.

I thought that was the bird going crazy with more songs than any mockingbird in yard before. When I looked it up tho, it didn't say it had a varied repertoire of tweedles.

I e been fascinated w these birds in my yard last 3 years. Same ones return every year. They can make over 1000 noises and mimic other birds as well as frogs and mechanical sounds. Beautiful to hear perched high on roof or tree singing their song sunrise or sunset!

Great posts. do you keep any of the fish, or throw them all back. Any particular lakes where you feel safe keeping the fish to eat?

How far out to you throw your corn chum, and how far out can you cast with just the hook, corn and 2 lb line? Are you just letting the hook rest on the bottom or pulling it slowly in? Or do you have a bobber?

Thanks
Bob

When I first started fishing Carnegie Lake there were signs that said don’t eat any fish 🐟 because they were contaminated with mercury. Now the fish consumption advisory says that fish are safe to eat. I release most of the fish that I catch. I usually throw the corn 🌽 more than 30’. I don’t use corn 🌽 bait on 2 lb test line. Sometimes the fish 🐟 hit a #14 unbaited treble hook or a 1/32 oz twister tail jig. When I use corn bait on 3 hooks with 4 lb test line I can cast further than the corn chum. 12 lb test doesn’t cast as far as 4 lb test. I usually let the bait sit on the bottom with some slack line. Today I put one kernel of corn on the 3 hooks and didn’t cast as far as the corn chum and caught fish. If you use corn bait, post your results.
