Hey all I'm in pullman this summer and desperately need to get out. Is there anyone who knows of a good campground near a river I can catch some trout on? I have struggled this far to find anything other than the snake which is boring with a bunch of boring campgrounds. All responses are welcome and I will be eternally greatful for any advice (you can PM me I don't know anyone else interested in fly fishing and won't ruin your fishing hole I promise). Help a brother out someone, I see lots of streams and could really use some rainbow trout in my life

I agree with Gmchief, northern Idaho has some excellent stream fishing. The Clearwater area has several streams that are fishable.

You can fish the Palouse that flows through the middle of Pullman and Raney Park that’s always got some action on Saturday night.

Grew up north of Spokane. Not a lot of great fly fishing rivers up here but there are some good fly only lakes up by Colville. Also the Pend Orielle and Kettle Rivers and the Columbia. Lots of smaller streams all over. The Little Pend Orielle chain of lakes east of Colville can have good fishing and a couple of decent camp grounds. Been fishing that area for 60+ years. Rainbow, brookies and cuts as well as lots of other types depending on the lake or stream. PM me if you want more specifics. Good luck and tight lines.

So I read yesterday that the Yakima river holds 1400 trout per mile, of various sizes. As well as other fish. The article was written in 2020, so numbers have changed to some degree, but still worth the trip.

The Yakima River offers the best stream trout fishing in Washington, and honestly that's not really up for debate. It's a classic Western stream, reminiscent of what you might find in Montana or elsewhere in open country: wide, best fished by boat, and a joy to experience.
There are a few places to fish from the bank. If you are open to other fishing experiences any of the I82 ponds are great to fish. Some require a short walk to get to but great ponds with some record size fish.
I live in Yakima and spend alot of time fishing both the river and all the ponds. Good luck and welcome to the group.

Be sure to find which part of the Yakima River has trout. Below Yakima I have never heard of any trout in the river

I would say for sure from rosa dam up towards Ellensburg. People are always out fishing up and down the river for trout.

Hey, I am from Pullman and do a lot of smallmouth bass fishing just 27 miles away on the snake river. There are spots to camp from Owyhee State Park to Lewiston or if you go down to Almota, you can fish below the dam and they have Boyer park you can camp at, but there are a lot of bass in that river. We have caught some monsters in there up to 7 1/2 pounds. I have been fishing on the river since 1968. I was five years old before there was ever a dam down there and I’m very familiar with bass fishing. We do a lot of salmon fishing on the confluence in the fall Two years ago a friend and I caught over 100 salmon in the month of September and October right there at Lewiston and Clarkston
