On this day, 56 years ago I managed to land the BEST catch of my life. She was a farmer's daughter from Illinois and I a mere beach boy from the shores of Hawaii. Some say opposites attract and quite possibly it applies to us. Are you ready for another OBG story of how it all began?

It was early September of 1965, and I had just returned from Viet Nam and ready to get my life started, I had an uncle who lived in Newport Beach, Ca and moved in with him and it was free (sweet!), Two weeks later I start my college career at Orange Coast college in Costa Mesa, Ca. The second day on campus, I see this beautiful girl walking by me and I say to myself “Don't want to date her, as I was sure I would probably marry someone like that”. Well a year and half goes by, and I was doing what guys do and getting a little tired of it. So I had a friend that knew this girl, and I had been watching her for quite a while and decided it was time to meet. It was about the end of February at the time. My friend set up a meeting with her in front of the book store and we sort of hit it off. On March 17th we went on our first date. In April we started talking about getting married. She says, let's get married the week after we graduate from junior college. Hmmm, kinda wanted to have one more summer of freedom. She had been accepted to be a stewardess (that is what they called them back then) and if we didn't get married in June she would be off to Chicago to one of the airlines. So, biggest decision of my life had to be made.

So on June 17th, exactly three months to the day of our first date we walked down the isle. Many of our friends were betting it would not last, but here we are happier than ever. That my friends is how it all began.

Great story! My bride and I mark 30 years today. I pray I get another 26+ with her. We're headed out on a long road trip with our yaks to celebrate with a week of fishing around Chattanooga.
