Fishing a private lake or pond that's never seen a lure

One Summer, I took a week's vacation fishing on private Oklahoma lake's and pond's, as my grandpa was a farm to market trucker and harvester. Grandpa was well thought of by many land owners and owned a ranch with a lake and many pond's full of fish.

My brother and I camped on a big double pond that was always known to have nice Channel catfish and fat healthy Sun perch, at some point they must have stocked it with Black Bass, when I saw one breaking water on our first morning there. I got my lure box out and put a large black skirted, double hooked crank bait with lots shiny blades and brought a couple of other lures just in case. They attacked my lure like crazy!, Many times as I was cranking it through the water, I caught two at a time, 3 to 5 lbs and larger. This was in the early 80's on this memorable occasion, I'm in my 20's and I was so worn out catching Bass my arm's were cramping 🤣 🎣. I don't think these fish had ever seen a lure before and it was like they had a mission to kill that crazy thing. I told my grandfather about all the Bass we were catching and we came back with him later and wore him out too. I know you can catch bass on any body of water, but I've never caught as rmany eager double hooked bass in my life. Have any of you ever had a similar fishing experience with private waters?

Private ponds are great! Unpressured and like you said not used to seeing artificial lures. Almost like shooting fish in a barrel. Caught my pb bass from a farm pond.

I have on several occasions back in the late 70's, fishing a large strip pit. 100+ bass a day plus several double hook ups was quite common.

I really miss the good ole days!

I lived up in the foothills in Northern California and my neighbor had his brush pile burn get away from him. My wife calls me yelling “there’s a fire” and hangs up!! My office is a 20 minute drive from home to Folsom, made it in 12 lol well the fire crews arrive and I helped the chain gang firefighters with hose and dousing the 🔥. This is how I met my neighbors with 40 acres and a 5 acres pond that was painstakingly well kept with 1000’s of Largemouths, bluegill and crappie. The owners said I could fish here anytime now 😂 300’ lower than my place but well worth the hike. First day was a week later and landed 136 bass in 3 hours from 2-8 lb beasts!!! Had many 100+ days, best was 202 on a full moon in 3 hours!!! Miss that spot 😭

I know a hole on a river like that. It is full of smallmouth and largemouth bass plus assorted other species. It’s hard to get to though. Several times I would make first cast with a long double prop bait and would get a 2#+ smallmouth on and they would be taking it away from each other. I might have 5 different fish on before I got a double reeled in. There are cabins within a couple hundred yards now so idk if it’s still good or not. Think I’ll rent the cabin and find out!
