Three different bass swim into a bar...

That would be a "sand bar"! Went paddling in Green Lake this morning near the town of Interlochen, MI to troll for northern pike in 15 to 25' of water along a weed edge that stretches for about a mile on the Eastern shoreline.

After a few hours of having no takers with pike I turned my attention to bass...any kind of bass at all! After a bit of trolling and some casting the variety show finally started by picking up a smallmouth bass, some largemouth bass and a few rock bass. They were all hanging out in shallow water adjacent to sand bars. Quite a few fish were visible but not interested in my presentations. Of course...if you can see them...they probably have seen you and are a bit aloof...especially if your vantage point is from sitting 4 inches below the water line in a kayak!

Had a few fish follow the lures back up to the boat but would not commit to a strike. Very calm conditions and light boat traffic.

The Mayfly hatch seems to be getting underway, as I noticed several regions of the lake where "spent" husks from hatching bugs were littering the water surface. A few fish were rising to feed on flies that were hatching during daylight hours...although the heaviest hatches will be occurring after dark. Might be worth going back in the evening with a fly rod!

Serenity dead ahead!

Nice job Yaker. It looks like an artist's conception of a perfectly calm day on the water. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ridley! Glad you enjoyed the summary! It's a large body of water that has some pretty deep areas. I mostly worked close to shore and finally found a few concentrations of hungry fish!

Thank you fishing rod! Yes...the Mayfly hatch will definitely bugger things up for a while. I think that the fish eat non stop all day long at the underwater "bug buffet". I might start wading for stream trout after dark and let the lakes alone for a while. The kayak could use a rest...and so could my arms!

Thank you Fredfish! I just love calm days like this one. Great for paddling...although maybe not as good for fishing when the sun gets up high. I did not get started until 8 am, and fished until noon. I almost started to throw some topwater stuff, but was too lazy to cut off a swivel and tie on a Hula Popper.

Some friends invited me to join in on some topwater kayak fishing tonight at a different lake close to home...and I might just join them... although a late afternoon nap is sounding good to me too! It's been a busy week of spending time on 5 different lakes and paddling about 4 to 5 hours each time.

That topwater trip sounds like a great way to spend a couple hours after dinner. Good luck if you go.

Thank you DVTracker! Glad you enjoyed them! We've had a pretty nice week around here and I did my best to take advantage of it. Supposedly some rain is in the forecast, and we do need it!

Good evening Fredfish! I decided to opt out tonight...although it ended up being really calm so I'm sure that the group did well.

Thank you Papa Jack! Plenty of fun was had! This is a lake that I rarely get to for fishing during Summer...so it was fun to be there on a calm day!

The Interlochen Music Center hosts numerous concerts over the Summer months, and instead of getting seated tickets in the outdoor amphitheater is can be fun to paddle out and bob offshore to listen to the music. The bands vary, but often include big headliner groups from the 60' thru the 80's along with emerging artists. Styx, Moody Blues and Bob Dylan come to mind from some past seasons.
