I was in my kayak this morning in the South Bay of Mesquite when I saw the water erupt and I ended up chasing stripers going crazy over shad for about 45 minutes. I probably paddled over to a mile and kept casting a square bill into the 30 to 40 ft circle and I ended up catching one striper. But pretty crazy to see in action for so long.
I also caught two nice Largemouth in separate coves, one on a square bill and he was at three and a half pounder and the next on a purple worm and he was a little over 2 lb, great day on the water!
The wet towel over the head was because it was 98* and heading to 103* tomorrow!

Nice catching Langer. Next time you see them tearing up Shad, try throwing a topwater like a popper. It's awesome watching them blow up on the surface. Thanks for sharing.

That's exciting. We love to find the Stripers boiling on the shad. We use Rattle Traps and have alot of success with them.
Usually try to cast around the edges of the school not in the middle. That way we don't spook the fish as badly as catchin fish in the middle of the feeding fish.
Congrats and thanks for the pics. 🤠👍
I would call that a good morning
Langer, I looked up great fisherman in the dictionary it had your picture posted there! Congrats!
Hey Langer, try silver spoons, 1/2 oz, let it sink for a count of 3, start reeling. Larger stripers a little deeper feeding on injured shad. Another method was a white 3/8 oz tungsten spinner bait (trim skirt a little to get distance). All on FC line. We had good success using theses up and down the Colorado River some years ago. Like Saw said, try to keep from spooking them. Lots of fun; wish I was there again!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree Fred... a big pencil popper is my go to for Stripers feeding on the surface. I don't know why they use the word pencil. The thought that always comes to my mind is broom stick.

That's been one of my eternal questions since the first time I used one, 40+ years ago, Steve.
