Anyone on here with experience fishing for trout at Newton Pond in/near Greenwood DE? Looking to go out next weekend and try my hand catching a few. What’s the best bait for trout? I know they stalk the pond in March but not sure if there would be any left this late. What other fish are abundant there. Any help is appreciated.

The water will be too warm fir trout very soon if not already. That's why they open troutcseaon in Aussex County before New Castle county

Thanks! That’s what I was afraid of, so I’ll see what else is in the pond. I’ll certainly be there next spring when it’s cool and the trout are restocked and plentiful. Grew up in WA state and spent most of my free time on the water fly fishing. Great memories.

Delaware is a long way from Washington in more ways than one🙂

Some pretty good trout fishing in northern DE near the PA border from early April through May. DE even has a fly fishing only stretch on White Clay Creek outside of Newark.

Yep, it just gets a little crowded sometimes. It's also handy to have a PA license too. The state line is not clearly marked

yeah, I have a PA lifetime license as well as DE so I fish both sides. Only encounter crowds the 1st wkend and the days they stock.

Guy,

In Western Maryland and West Virginia you have miles and miles of rivers to fish without ever seeing anyone. I've been in the middle of rivers fishing and after looking at my watch realize I've been there for over an hour fishing peacefully!

You guys really need to get out there and enjoy beauty in the wilderness...

I'm here for info...

More trophy trout have been caught in the North Branch of the Potomac river than any other water in MD. Fishing below the Randolph-Jennigs dam has always produced as the flows are usually good. There is some good "roadside" fishing there if you don't plan on wading.

The Savage, Casselman, and the Youghiogheny rivers all produce.

Learn how to read the USGS flow charts for Maryland.

Red dots are areas to fish.

For the NB - below the dam, I do not wade when the flows (CFS) is above 300.

For above the dam it is 200 CFS
