Wife wanted a catfish dinner , only caught one but lucky it was about 3 lbs so it will make dinner. Plus caught my only second Sacramento Pikeminnow . Guess its a trash fish but put up a good fight so put him back to catch and fight again. Good day.

That is a nice sized Catfish! What did you use for bait for the Pikeminnow? They are a handsome fish. Are they a native species or were the introduced from somewhere else?

What have you caught them on? I bet you are not fishing the Merced River now. McClure is almost full and still a lot of snow up there.

Many years ago I would wade along the rivers edge from the bridge on G grade upstream I would catch them on eggs, power bait or even Meps spinners. No fishing there for me right now! That river is a torrent, taking everything along with it!

Growing up fishing the Merced River, I've caught many of these. I knew them as squawfish. I've caught them as far upstream as the South Fork of the Merced. They are good fighters and will take a fly.

Ranger. back many years ago, I used to catch pike minnows in the American river using fly rod and muddler minnow. It was a lot of fun when my patients just ran out on steelhead.
