Today was a much better day weather wise. Started out at 58° at 0530 and quickly rose to 68° and at 1500 it was 82°. Water temperature has risen to 67° overnight because of two sunny days. Even found a cove with 70° water.
So the bass should getting on the beds at these temperatures, but they are not yet. Probably because the surface temperature has gone fro 57° to ~70° in one week. Could see tons of fish on the Garmin, but couldn’t find the key to the puzzle. We caught 6 bass today. 1 on a white chatter bait, two on square bills, one on a wacky Yum Dinger, and two on Texas rigged Yum Dinger (color Elders Magic). Caught half of the fish on secondary points leading into coves. The rest off of weed beds with wood close to shore.
We only count bass for our brotherly competition, but we did catch 2 bluegill and 3 stripers. That little bluegill almost swallowed the worm🥴
Tomorrow is another day.

Great job catching and reporting Jer. I'm trying to decide on the opening salvo for McDonough tomorrow. Hopefully, like yours, the water temperature is up a little. Way to hang in there with a variety of baits. Thanks for sharing my friend.

I think the fish know what they’re doing. Maybe it is you that is confused. Not too much though, you started to get them figured it out. Good job.

Nice report Jer, love your topic title as the same thing is happening here. The crappies here are completely confused, gills and other “sunfish” much less the bass are still not in spawning mode which has led to a bit of frustration on the fisherman’s end. Supposed to have some stable weather this week which will hopefully turn things around.

Thanks Fred. Good luck tomorrow. Stay versatile and fish slow. We tried many retrieve speeds and slow is still the best.

Thanks Billy. We sure could use some stability in the temperatures. 40° swings just don’t cut it.
