I've always wanted a small boat. My nephew gave me a 14' aluminum Grumman boat for Christmas. I sent the 9.9 Johnson motor to the local marina and replaced the water pump and changed the gear oil. Bought a new battery and filled the gas tank and added the 2 cycle oil. Had them go over it and they told me it was in very good condition. Ok...so I registered the boat and trailer and added it to our insurance policy. Well now that its ready to go right? I had an epiphany....I don't t know ANYTHING about unloading, loading or operating it. I've watched dozens of You Tube videos but they were not very informative. So here I am asking if anyone would be willing to spend a day with me and teach me what I need to know. I am willing to pay for your time and you get a day on the water. I am in North East Ohio very close to Walborn Resevoir. Thanks in advance

Hi Bruce, I just got got on here after a you could say a long day. I was reading all the replies and I thought I'd reply. I could maybe spend a weekend with you. I live in Alliance and when I get a chance to go I fish both Deer Creek and Walborn. Only thing Deer Creek is electric only. I know Walborn has a good boat launch. Main thing is to enjoy it it. The more you can take it out the more comfortable you'll get doing it. The most important part tho is safety first. The replies are good from everyone. Curtis @ C&M Locksmithing

Another thought if you go on a Saturday or Sunday I'd go early in the morning before the lake gets busy 😳

Boatus has a great course online test to follow it's all good info and you will never be over prepared. I believe these are what the prior post gentleman was talking about , the thing I like most about them is very good nighttime visibility in traffic. They are very easy to wire into your tail lights .

Thank you

Just a little tip. Don't be the guy who backs down the ramp and unloads their items from the vehicle to the boat especially when people are waiting in line. Pull into the parking lot and find a place to load your gear into the boat. Now you are ready to pull up to the ramp and back down to launch. People don't like to wait for others who aren't prepared to launch. Vice-versa when loading your boat.

Great advice...thank you

Bruce is this the first time you will be towing as well? If so I would suggest go to a large empty parking lot and practice backing up.

Remember all the practice we all had before getting our drivers licenses. Put up some cones with poles / sticks in them so you can see them and back the boat between them a few time until you are comfortable.

Thank you for the sound advice
