I like to fish walleye, panfish, muskie in mn. Northern wi. , and lake of the woods canada.
Can you tell me anything about Walleye and Smallies in the Minnesota (Border Waters)? Also can a fellow find lakes in the BW where you won't see a lot of people ? I'm thinking of taking my kayak there, and lake hopping for some real pole benders.
JDM - BWCA walleyes and smallies can be both caught on jigs & soft plastics. I also take in some cranks for both. I do take some leeches and crawlers in as my only live bait.
Some top water (Whopper Popper / Spooks) are also a lot of fun for SM and Pike.
You won't see many people at all unless you are on the easiest to get to lakes right by Ely, otherwise, the people you will see will be very minimal

Welcome to the Stage, Kurt, the ol'Rock Hound will not lead you astray. The only time I was in the BW, was in 1960 and we never saw anyone, and we could catch a fish on every cast with whatever you had on. It didn't matter, but I'm sure that changed in many ways. As far as LOTWs, it gets a lot of pressure especially when Covid hit and crossing the border was difficult. The LOTWs have a lot of fishing reports that you can find on the internet. Good luck!
